Who's the MVP of the league? Can we at least look at a non-QB again? There is no sure-fire #1 QB like in years past. MVP should be Tyreke Hill, esp if he gains 2,000 receiving yards. If he achieves 2,000 yards, Miami is 1 or 2 seed in the AFC, and he doesn't win, then it's not a true MVP award anymore. Just the QB with good stats on a playoff team award. Which is boring.
I think the year JJ Watt didn't win(2012?) -- when he had by far the most sacks, and scored a few offensive TD's -- was the harbinger for non-QB's. This would be another.
You don't get to rely on the NFL and the thousand variables that go into that and say look at me I was right. Just too many things out of one guys control. For example, Brock Purdy is not number one in most quarterback success metrics playing for said Jets. Just wouldn't happen.
As I've said, the best comp is how the team does after he leaves and obviously even that is not airtight
You also crapped on Sam while he was in college. How has SC done without him?? Any Rose Bowl victories or pac 12 championships?
won a heisman without him and played in the ccg last year. and yes. Performance is how people are
Measured and sam didn't perform. He's now in stretch career mode with a clipboard. Teams change year to year. Seeing how someone's done after he left is stupid. Just goal post moving. He was a top 3 draft pick. That's a hall of famer of perennial all pro. He's not even a starter.
I didn't say anything bad about him. I said his IQ is 30 pts higher than darnolds and that's why he's playing. It's not because he can make better throws.
leading the NFL this season in passing efficiency, Total QBR and passing down field. Passing downfield is based on % of completions on passes thrown more than 20 yards. His completion rate this season on deep passes is 67% the next highest is 45%. So much for those who say all he does is dink and dunk. Also have you noticed that he is so precise that his passes always catch the receiver in stride which is one reason why the 49er receivers have so much yards after catch. Also on draft day the 49ers were thinking of using the last pick on another player and then signing Purdy to a free agent contract. Someone in the draft room
Spoke up and said "if we really like this kid and he's a quarterback what makes you think he will
Sign as a free agent with us. Reason prevailed and they used the pick on Purdy. Also this kid is totally unflappable. Ice water in his veins and added to that he has Joe Montana's feel for avoiding the pass rush.
Purdy made a bad Iowa State program relevant. 4 year starter. More college hot shot quarterbacks should realize that playing an extra year or even two does help prepare them for NFL. There was one gane earlier in the season were on back to back passes 15 yards downfield where the window to complete the pass was literally a 6 inch window and the ball was perfectly placed for completions. That was when I though this kid is the real deal.
He also has old time values. He said early in the season that if football doesn't work out he will just go on with life and do something else. He has a real head on his shoulders.
Purdy's coach Shanahan says that he Processes reads and checking out of a bad play call faster than any quarterback Shanahan has ever worked with. And he's only in his second year.FYI

Well, he's kept Sam Darnold from playing, so he must be the greatest QB of all time

Yep. Arm talent and mobility matter and are easily measured.
But mental game and personal moxy are much harder to see. he has those in spades.

The kid is in the MVP race.
