O'Connor was a walk on. Dang, he was an All State, All SS. CIF OL at Santa Margarita. He must had good offers from D-1 schools? Glad, he walked on at USC. Congrats to Killian with his well deserved scholie... Shaka
From whay I have seen in the past, this is just a reward for a guy who has dedicated himself to the team on his own dime. Doesn’t mean he will now be a nfl prospect or anything. IDK how it works now because everything has changed but a walk on doesn’t get training table privileges, pays his own tuition, no post game meals, and all that sort of thing. There was a story a few years ago about how the USC basketball walk ons weren’t even allowed to sit on the bench during games. Really disrespectful stuff.
I'm happy for the kid, and I hope he works out, but this is based on one bowl game's performance, to say nothing that usc's talent levels have dropped to the point that walk ons are becoming scholarship worthy talents. The PK got his scholie and then couldn't make a fg to save his life. In fact, he's no longer with the team. I don't exactly trust Riley's eye for talent.
If this guy plays a lot it means we are in trouble. He got pushed around, imo, in the bowl game. As I said this is mostly symbolic, if you notice the timing, I imagine we just had an extra scholi after the off season signings. But I understand the point you are making.

Hope this pays off better than when riley gave the place kicker a scholie midseason 2 years ago.
