Come on the hand writing has been on the wall for quite awhile...I warned months ago that this NIL shet would make Oregon the strongest team on the west coast wit their godfather and his friends. Then we see Oregon hiring two scumbag assistant coaches who have been found to use every recruting no no out there including the brown paper bag. Follow that up with an Assistant Coach at Oregon talking about how they want to operate like the SEC when it comes to recruiting and read yesterday the Oregon HC admitting that he was going to learn the game from his assistants ( I would have thought that after working for Kirby the only thing his assistant could teach him would be limited since neither your OL Coach or your DC can actually coach..
To the point the only other reason besides the cash and other guarantees the only other plus for Oregon was the family connection as it sure wasn't the coaching by the OL Coach....
Note...obviously it wasn't outbidding USC since before the announcement Riley went off on the NIL for recruiting HS kids....so he obviously knew something had gone on in that unofficial visit at Oregon well before tha announcement. Kid didn't pick Oregon for the coaching, or for the education or the value of a diploma.......thats my take
@OldHickoryTrojan the NCAA isn’t going to review every NIL deal/contract for every kid. And the schools are going to wait for the ruling on every NIL deal before signing the kid to a LOI. Pandora’s box is open. There might be some guidance as the years go by. But their won’t be a ruling on every deal. The NCAA is still investigating the Basketball cheating scandAl at Arizona years later.
@TEE I explained eactly what has been reported as being n the books right now. If the NCAA can go voer every kids transcripts and what classes they allow and don't allow the NIL stuff should be easy By the way I applaud your honesty about the loot he got to gp there..all the excuses by LAD were from a fan attached to no reality.....heard that term used during a broadcast regarding how Oregon fans felt his picking Oregon cause he loved the campus...they were ;aughing about the BS that was out there and said it all resolved around the coin and future incentives..
@TEE Very few schools are playing the NIL game. Who else in the Pac-12 is going down that route besides Uho and USC? None. But it doesn't matter. Even if Uho pays 250K/yr to certain players with a bad coaching staff, they will still continue to be exposed as over rated.
So Oregon out-bid USC for Conerly? Interesting on many levels....
And honestly great news, if true. It means Oregon ain't backing down.
Personally, I think there were other factors involved, and his signing wasn't simply about grabbing the highest offer.
And to be clear I dislike the current wild west format of NIL and the transfer portal. But until something is done to regulate both, gotta take advantage of the current system or go the way of the Long Beach State 49ers...
I’d still waste the money on 4 and 5 star kids. Odds are they pan out more than a 3 star kid. Phil is worth billions, he’s got ten years left to live. Might as well spend a few million on some recruits.
Correct. You can pay players for what they might do in the future (e.g., Wander Franco in 2021) or pay them for what they did in the past (e.g., Albert Pujols in 2011).
With college recruits, you can only pay them based on potential, and 4-5 stars figure to have more of that than 3 stars. None of them are going to wait 2 years to get paid on performance.
This NIL crap is like fed stimulus - Lots of money spilled out in the hope of future dividends to the economy, but it will mostly result in wasted spending. These 5 star kids are unproven commodities. History shows that most 5 stars end up as relative busts, yet the "collective" fools pour out tons of cash to these kids who haven't yet set foot in the classroom. Take a look at this Connerly kid. Sure he is athletic, but with chicken legs, skinny arms, and a big flabby mid-section. As with all high school highlite films, he blows away much smaller opponents with nothing to show how he fares against players his own size. I'm glad USC decided not to match Nike money for this kid.

Smart way to set it up….“arms length“ and make it a “collective”. Sure Phil is biggest contributor as/when needed.
Did Nico sign his deal for $8 mill. Or is he still shopping?
