Case in point, SEC and B1G appear to be getting together to basically formulate what may become the very early stages of super conferences under their own autonomy, and leave the NCAA behind.
You're like the old man that just discovered youtube and keeps annoying people as he shares his discovered entertainment and thinks his narcissistic discovery is interesting to others.
Wait....You're not "like" that old man, you are that old man. Boring.
Cuz they have no institutional memory. USC & UCLA playing for the Rose Bowl (and nothing else). The Granddaddy OF Them All and the parade. Fred McNeil trying to tackle Rod McNeil. The Farmer brothers on opposite teams. Prothro & McKay were Gods fighting one another. Both playing in the Coli was nice, too.
And do you think all these changes are a step in the right or wrong direction?
Im against.
I actually dont mind players being paid but I knew it was a slippery slope and the fact there was no "salary cap" made little sense and it was easy to see where this would end up. This is Miami in the 80's craziness. Not a win.
And it was also clear that there would be massive reshuffling between winners and losers in NIL game. Comp is a good thing but just like walmarts and power centers replaced main streets usa's across the US we do have to ask ourselves at what "cost".
Same with nafta and China manufacturing dependence. Pros and cons for sure.
You throw in Conferences reshuffling and in case of P12 actually dissolving along with yearly transfers allowed in the portol and you have 3 seismic events happening.
No one knows CF like Saban and Harbaugh. I agree with them. This is not gonna end well.
I think the sec and the b10 are getting together as the big boys of cfb. Representing all the top schools. All the TV ratings.
They are usurping the ncaa and moving to replace it as I predicted.
But thisnisnehere you have it wrong. They see the unlimited player movement. Unlimited free agency and unlimited costs. As being threats to the business of cfb.
And they are going to figure out a way to control labor costs with a salary cap or rate structure. They're going to figure a way to limit player movement.
You don't have people moving all around in pro sports. There are salary caps and wage levels. Even Hollywood has scale.
They are going to get on top of and co tell this thing in the way the ncaa can't
UCLA has already thrown in the towel, will take the B1G money, and then likely fold when the new super conference redraw takes place in 4 years. I get the appeal to have football go this direction from a playoff perspective, but I think the majority of the fans will long for the "good ol' days" sooner rather than later. The new grads and recent alumni will never support the programs like the old timers do/did, they can't even pay rent let alone tithe back to the school NIL fund or to other athletics.
