He’s got an uphill battle.

Im not even getting into subjective topics like play calling, player development or his love to over emphasize the pass and abandon the run or even culture building)

Two years with Grinch....set USC back 4-5 years to overcome. No one saw it coming....including CLR..until it was too late....

usc didn't play uo or osu. easy schedule for a real coach.

Oregon sure recruits the hell out of cal, so stop with the CA demographics. USC and riley are missing out on a ton of talent.

Riley can't evaluate talent other than qbs, and even that is regressing.

Lines and LBs need to become a greater emphasis, but that requires playing physical football. Riley can't spell physical.

I don't think NIL is the issue. Yes USC needed to spend more, but the issues now are player development and winning. Riley doesn't develop players and his brand of football won't win. Buying mercenaries is not going to fix those issues and will only lead to further offseason like this one.

Have to wonder how it feels to be brought in, wait to be developed, then get leap frogged, as you say. We aren't the only school dealing with that, but it seems that way sometimes.

For sure. And then you add money to the mix. So if you are Clemson and not doing transfer. Just recruiting them and keeping them. What happens when your players start smelling cashe elsewhere and your structure crumbles? Can’t recruit enough hs players for that. And suddenly it all falls apart as you need transfers to come in.

My original thoughts on this are formed from the junior College era when coaches would come in and fix a team with JC players. A solution everyone understands in year one and perhaps a little bit in your two. After that, you either need to build your program on JC players like Bill Snyder did at Kansas State and just recognize you’re going to rebuild your team every two years or more or you need to shift the high school recruiting which is a little hard to do midstream

Now I applied that same theory to this era and there are a lot of similar analogies. That USC if you were the defensive back branches mom, you would see your kid get hurt on and off for two years and USC continually bringing in transfers in front of him. So you get upset and leave. Little bro probably figures he can get money anywhere. Shoot he probably figures he’s going to the nfl in a year. These kids are so deluded.
