Lan Danning definitely was brought into a fairly good situation in Eugene. No question.
Sure, we owe a lot to Mike Bellotti taking a chance on an unknown OC from New Hampshire, and everything that Chip did to help put Oregon on the college football map. And Mario gave us quacks hope again.
But Dannning took what Mario re-started for us and made it better. Much better. Unarguably this duck team is better, top to bottom, than the one under Mariota that played for the National Championship in 2015. And this while working as a first time head coach who is currently at 21-4 over his first 2 years with 2-3 games still to play. (For comparison, Chip was 22-4 his first 2 seasons at Oregon.).
Plus, Danning looks to be at Oregon for the long haul.
That said, I want to see a similar level of on-field success with a different QB in the next 2 years or so, but right now things are looking quite rosy for us quacks. I also expect our D to only improve as more of Danning's guys come in and Mario's guys are shuffled out.
Lanning's done well but he also inherited a program that had been legitimately contending for conference titles and playoff spots for years and has the backing of one of the deepest NIL pockets in the nation.
He walked into a much better situation than CLR...besides a stronger foundation, he has Uncle who will pay for recruits where CLR has had to deal with a school that threw out one or two NIL efforts and started one or two more that haven't done shet. Lanning has built on what Christobal started and is a big mouth jerk that hasn't proved a damn thing yet. Do I like the physicality of Oregon in comparison? Sure do but put that talent on USC and fire Grinch after the first disasterous year and this topic wouldn't even be brought up IMHO..
Not really..I don't ike big mouths that don't act humble about anything and haven't won anything to brag about...what I wish for would be the kind of cash Lanning has to buy players...the USC NIL efforts suck whereas Oregon has a collective of billionaires that don't mind floating the cash around to get the players they want..it ould also help if Riley had fired Grinch after last seasos collapse and actually hired recruiters that could coach,...USC has one recruiter and he can't coach.
Like Petros said too bad SC is paying LR $110 mil over 10 years in addition to a $17.5 mil dollar house just so Riley can sit on a gold toilet courtesy of Rick Caruso. That would of sure bought some good players.
Shut up
