Doc, Can't be that hard on C.LR. Heck, there are maybe 5 HC' worth anything & C.LR is not on that list. OK, C.LRÂ has deficiencies, but this team is much better vs 2023 team. He does not have the top players right now. Like we knew coming into the season, the D front 7 were going to be the weak link, even with the additions of C.DA Lynn and AC's. Coaches need players.
Can't blame the fumble on RB Q.Joyner, the tackler hit him hard with helmet right on the ball and arm. It was the perfect hit. USC's 2 losses were very close and even ahead with minutes left. Our boys played hard, can't ask for anything more.
Dam there were so mnay upsets yesterday. No team is dominating this year. Heck, Bama has a D problem. UGA O inconsistent, Tennessee Wr's running lazy routes & drops...
These are the things that USC lacks right now.
OK, team got bigger, but lack strength, quickness, cardio, stamina to close out close games (4th Qt) it’s a failure of conditioningl. C.LR must get his team in tip top FB conditioning. Championship teams are well conditioned. That goes for any sport, conditioning is the difference maker.
2.     Depth. C.LR has got to start recruiting harder HS & TP, no down years like 2023.
3.     Wr's running lazy routes and too many drops which kills momentum & 3rd down conversions. Wr’s must do a better job.
4.     QB Moss must run sometimes and extend plays with his legs. That keeps D guessing and off balance.
5.     OL must improve mucho on pass protection. The run blocking is fine. Plus, too many off sides penalties are made every game. The great C.Walsh, SF 49ner's and C.Shula, Miami and Baltimore OL were 280-290 lbs, that were quick, great footwork, strong base, A+ balance & technique, strong hands. Maybe OL in 320 lbs and more is not the model for OL?
6.     Team needs 1 to 2 vocal leaders to pump up the team for these 4th Qt drives and D holds.
7.     Front 7 gets too tired in the 4th Qt. In the Michigan and Minnesota game the front 7 just could not muster the energy to make the stop and hold on for the win.
8.     C.LR O must score more pts (35 to 40+ pts). Freaken A, 17 pts what the hell. That ain't gonna win games.
So, like turning on a light switch, Riley is just supposed to make all of those changes you listed happen now or even in one off season. Not going to happen. This may take a while, because it starts with the OL and a far greater commitment to getting high quality OL from high school and/or the pirtal. We have no high quality OL in this recruiting
class or on our depth chart. So, once again, Riley will be forced to go to the portal this off season If he fails again to sign quality OL transfers from the portal, then expect worse results next year. Riley is going to need at least 3 years of solid high school recruitment of OL supplemented by transfers to fill in gaps if he wants to compete for championships. His failure to recruit quality OL the past 3 years is the primary reason for our offensive woes. This is all on Riley. The 2026 high school OL class better have some high level 4 star recruits or you can stick a fork in CLR.
Yeah, USC with 2 losses already will not make the 12 team CFP tournament. Right now they must salvage the season, continue to play as a team (O & D) with Trojan pride, fight and honor. HS recruits on the bubble are observing closely...
Unless you can come up with someone who is guaranteed to be better I’ll stick with Riley. Any team can lose to anyone especially on the road. The upsets have just begun.
so you're saying SC wasn't jobbed out of two wins by the B1G officials?
got it
so it was just bad luck that Duce was horse collared in the endzone so he couldn't jump up to get the ball and not an oversight by the officials?
