Per Scott Wolf so don’t get your feathers ruffled. How amusing would that be. But why would Auburn take a flyer on an unproven coach. Doesn’t make sense.
My advice to him , 1. Learn your craft first. 2. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side and 3. Alabama, 4. Georgia 5. LSU,you get the idea. 6 dealing with the big bucks Auburn backers. BUT if his goal is to coach in the SEC then he would probably take the job. One more reason not to take the job: Gus Malzahn LOL
I am biased as a Pac-12 fan. But I don't think Auburn is a step up from Oregon. Everyone needs to cool their jets re Lanning, though. Oregon was ever so close to losing to the Cougars. Had they, would Auburn or anyone have their sights set on Dan?
Lanning is decent. He’ll flame at AU, because they are like SC was when all the rats in HH were calling the shots. AU boosters and deep pockets are in control of FB.
My guess is the Ducks would hire Dillingham to keep the ball rolling. I’m actually surprised Auburn wants a coach who just got blown out by an SEC team.
Dilly would do fine in the new PAC 10. Of course he will will bolt to Florida St once they need a new coach.
Dillingham is after the ASU job. I don’t get why Auburn would want a guy with 7 games of head coaching experience. Have these AD’s learned nothing from the Frost, Fuentes, Herman, Sark, etc,..and the money they throw at these unproven guys, wow.
Bohn‘s move was freaking brilliant. bullet proof decision.
i will add Jimbo and Tucker. What possessed MSU to throw $95 million mostly guaranteed to an unproven coach who rode the tails of Ken Walker to riches.
If ASU is his dream job then yeah, Ducks should pass. Not sure who they would go after then. Maybe Lane Train. He’s from Fresno, knows the PAC. Knows he can’t win the SEC at Ole Miss
I remember those days! When other fans and teams coveted your head coach. Seems to happen a lot with Oregon coaches. Not so much at other places, though. Wonder why?
Funny thing is as much of a "stepping stone" that Oregon may be, it never works out for those ex-head coaches....
Rich Brooks left Oregon after winning a p10 championship, but never won anything in the NFL and never won an SEC championship at Kentucky.
Chip Kelly never won anything in the NFL and is just starting to make some noise with UCLA many years later.
Willie Taggart went to his dream school, FSU, and flamed out almost immediately. I hear FAU is thinking of firing his 13-16 ass.
And poor Mario....did good things for Oregon, but now very much appears to be in over his head at his dream school, Miami.
Mike Bellotti was the smart one who simply retired from college football after he left Oregon.
Hopefully coaches are finally understanding that Oregon is a magical place to coach. Somehow I think Dan knows that well enough by now....lol....the grass isn't always greener....
LA...you know my bonafides re contacts at Oregon. No tears were shed when Mario bolted. He's now Miami's problem. Lanning? We'll see. Oregon isn't for everyone. I'd live there in a heartbeat. Up the McKenzie somewhere...Vida for one. God's country.
Good to hear from you Fresno Mike! Yes, I know you are connected (much more so than I am!)
Mario helped Oregon move forward much like Taggart did. Willie was the one who showed you could recruit to Eugene. Mario, with all of his faults, took it from there.
And I expect Lanning to take it even further....he's the guy I was expecting Helfrich to be, but wasn't: a leader, intelligent, calculating, hungry. Lanning will make a ton of mistakes in his first head coaching job, but I think he will learn and very well may do great things while at Oregon.
He'd be better off waiting for the Ol Miss opening.....if they spend the cash like Auburn will...ask me why because Ol Miss gives the coach a free hand while Auburn has boosters that like calling the shots..forcing certain hires on the coach and input to the team..
More then hard...they want to run the team and they get away with it. Forced Head Coaches to keep Assistnats they didn't want and hire assistants they didn't want . You can add they also want to tell the coaches the offense and defense to run..not a good place to coach...a guy like Saban wouldn't last a day there..
Makes zero sense.
Why would lanning leave a great situation for a sinking ship

Dont forget John McKay and John Robinson as well…

NOOOO!!! Our friend TEE would have a total meltdown. Nothing but venomous posts… scorched earth
