Scoreboard is obvious, but how do you defeat the slow mesh?
stay out of read and react?
maintain gap control?
blitz more, basically Run Blitz in an effort to force the offense to speed up?
What would be the markers for defeating the Slow Mesh by forcing it to speed up?
Would it look like two forced fumbles and two interceptions for four turnovers, five sacks, and 12 TFls?
Or, something else?
I need some expert opinions to weigh in on this.
Many thanks in advance.
There are different variations of the Mesh, Hal Mumme Godfather of the air raid and the coach that made the mesh concept popular. Mike Leach’s version the air raid mesh that dissects defenses and there’s the June Jones version that he didn’t use until his last year working with Mumme. Seth Latrell at North Texas St had his version.
no,
for whatever reason Stanford went away from it. sc
It’s difficult to stop, near impossible without any film. There’s a reason WF won 11 games last year.
Clemson had success with disguising defensive fronts and mixing exotic blitz packages.
Stanford is going to have a lot of success this year on offense. They don’t have any outstanding players, just a bunch of solid players. Add in a clever scheme, they’ll win most of their games.
