USC started the game against cal using one linebacker, and after Nomura missed the gap on two consecutive running plays and giving up the first cal TD, his day was done. Shane Lee came in and restored order until cal made 2nd half adjustments.
It was a one linebacker set with 6 defensive backs for the rest of the game. When Lee came out, a safety took his place; not another linebacker or d-lineman - another d-back. Chickens scrambling around with no heads, running over and tripping each other, blindly leaving cal receivers wide open, or running into them.
There can be too many players in one place if you don't prepare for it. I understand USC is short of competent linebackers, but you have to prepare for it. You can't just throw the ball out there and tell them to go for it. That's what it looked like to me anyway.
BTW, whatever happened to Raejon Davis and Julien Simon? Weren't these guys "almost" 5 stars? Hoping we can at least get Gentry back for ucla and notre dame.
Raesjon has one tackle this season. Dude looks small in the one photo I saw . sc
really?
starters: Shane Lee and Nomera = two LB for base 4-2-5
Nomera and hence the base 4-2-5 played into last 3 min of the 4th quarter
SC used a dime package for the last two Cal scores
the TD and Two Point Conv, hence their shovel pass
since Call couldn't run the ball
try harder, or watch a game or three
can't wait for you to post up that a zone blitz is evidence the dline is filling in for DBs that can't make it happen
