Lincoln Riley addressed the USC community on Sunday afternoon at the Galen Center during a timeout in the Trojans’ basketball game against Long Beach State. Riley’s mere presence injected some juice into the building and drew a reaction from the crowd. Everyone can see how hard he is working on the recruiting trail. Yet, a few extra words gave the Galen crowd an extra jolt.
“We came here for one reason, and that’s to win championships,” Riley said. The simple statement of USC’s expectations — only the best will do — is what everyone wants to hear after the misery of the Clay Helton years. USC fans know they have a heavyweight head coach and a laser-like focus on recruiting, a complete 180-degree reversal from the previous head coach. Just 30 seconds of listening to Lincoln Riley, knowing what he is pouring into this job, is enough to make USC fans ready for a 2022 season which is eight and a half months away…
