Entertaining FSU OSU game

oregon State won on last play of game. Wildcat rushing TD. Went for win instead of overtime. Was a 3 point game because Fresno scored with about 35 seconds left but missed the PAT

Jake Haener looks great. Fresno offense looks like they find open spaces and fast guys. Then again, they only scored about 29 points so must have been a lot of failed drives I didn't see. Fresno had 41,000 fans there, buttressing my view that they, SDSU, Oregon State and WSU, maybe BYU and Boise would be good conference mates

It was a very good game. Both teams are solid and will provide a challenge. OSU plays tough and are well coached. Reminds me of Erickson's teams in the 90s minus the thugs. Smith has built a solid program up there.

FSU should be a fun game next week. Likely a high scoring affair

Yeah, I assume all of the above have conference plans. I was just posing the idea that I think for where all those programs are, they would be good mates. I think OSU and WSU have stadiums of 30 or 35K Fresno had 41 tonight. Think BYU is probably 60 ish. Geography works. Academics too. I am sure there are plenty of musical chairs reasons why those schools don't all end up together. I just think as a conference it would make a really interesting and evenly balanced competition. Think all of them have had intriguing teams, and all but SDSU seem to have nice fan bases that in some measure support their teams. To me, they all are a higher level than these Alabama States and Bowling greens we see. Even Rice. But I don't think any of them are ever going to be playoff teams. I would hope the college football world has room for programs like that. Tweeners who add a lot to the experience even if they can't win the arms race. All the schools I named are really positive parts of the college experience and I'd hate to see the market flush them to D2 or also ran status. I am old enough to remember when Fullerton, Long Beach and UOP had football programs. And some were competitive. All gone now and really don't want to see that happening to the guys named above.

I am also afraid that each of the above could be thrown into a conference where they become the weak sister. Hanging on for dear life because it beats the alternative.

you mean like WSU and OSU have been for the last 80 years in the PAC. My guess is they are content being in little sister for another 80 years in the PAC. Besides, didn’t the PAC become easier with SC and Bruins leaving?

Probably true. They always say in real estate to have the smallest house on the block. I was just posing the idea of having a group of teams that are solid programs, albeit not huge, competitive and who could and should be playing D1 football. On fairly even footing. Silly me.

Part of it also was seeing OSu and Fresno play an evenly matched game and realizing Fresno and OSU have similar programs, stadium sizes. Attendance. I think they'd be good matches. Fresno is a legit solid entity. They've been screwed over by conference moves a couple times over the years. I'd like to see them end up with some partners that provided them a chance to be a solid sustaining mid major type thing. Not wither away. And with talk of the PAC's future, I see the same for WSU and OSU
