Eric Henderson leaves Rams for USC. but why?

He's the DL coach. The run game coordinator. And now apparently Lynn is willing to give up half his job to be CO DC. And Nua will be CO DL coach, and I guess thi guy will be the run game coordinator too, whatever that means.

Man, if I am Lynn, I am feeling poretty undermined by all these hires.

And if you are Henderson why would you ever leave the NFL for college? And for a lateral move no less?

ANyone have ideas?

Lynn isnt giving up any part of his job. Co-DC is just a title to raise his pay. He left for the money

I'm sure that the guy has been interviewed about his decision, no? I haven't seen or read anything about his decision. Were his answers vague or just run of the mill responses?

Just happened yesterday. At this point probably just some press release. They usually introduce those folks a few days later. But for a position coach there may not be enough media interest to do that

NFL assistants work 80ish hours a week . Twice the hours. Half the money. sc

I wondered that. But if you think college assistants work 40 hours a week you're off your rocker.

I don't know what nfl assistants make but I speculated that with all the employees they have in their organizations. All the analysts. Runners. Trainers. That they probably have a ton of people they can promote up into those position coach situations. And thus don't pay a ton.

Because Riley is building a defensive juggernaut at SC....and the best DL coach in the NFL wants to be a part of the movement.

It's not a surprise if you think about it.

The friends doesn't matter. Salary going from NFL to college laterally and doubling? USC is doing some stuff here.

They are investing in top coaches. But now have fallen behind on the talent aquisition end of the cost structure. We will see if they can catch up.

Just because you keep saying "the best" doesn't make it true. The Rams were in the bottom 25% in sacks bottom 50% in rushing allowed this year. At best, he was good and the are significantly regressing. No wonder Riley likes him.

My understanding from BB is Lynn and Henderson grew a strong friendship when both worked for Lynn's dad in the NFL which helped and obviously he did get a co-DC title...I ead a story where it was noted it's a lot faster moving up the coaching ranks in CFB than the NFL...that might ply into it as well...

Has to be more than that. Good assistant in the NFL are noted. And he's black. Huge plus. Is anyone on the USC NOT black anymore?

Anyway, USC has to be paying some $$$ for assistants. Surprising.

Takes great assistants and great talent to win. Maybe USC is investing in assistants first and hoping they can take USC's medicore 3 star talent and make it competitivce before they go step 2 and invest in buying some decent players. Maybe they felt before they were throwing good money after bad when they put high priced talent in a D sacheme that wasn't going to work.

On the defensive staff only the Lber coach is not black but on the offense...OL Coach, TE Coach, IWR Coach are currently not black.

Henderson worked for Lynn's dad and with Danton in the NFL. My understanding is Danton helped recruit Henderson to USC. Yes, I thought the co-DC thing was interesting too. But there is no undermining. I think.

Is USC paying the kind of money that NFL teams aren't?

If so this would be quite a switch and a huge strategy change for USC. USC has not been known as a place that invested large sums in assistant coaches historically.
