Chip has 2 high school recruits as part of his 85th ranked recruiting class right now. 2 low ranked dudes. Thats it. Chip has never had a top 25 class while at ucla, in fertile SoCal. #60 last year, worse this year.l it’s hard to be this inept at recruiting while surrounded with loads of talent.
Why would you think any recruit would love to play in his system? It’s not reality.
I don't think recruiting rankings mean nearly as much as they're hyped to be, but they don't mean nothing. He must have had good recruiters working for him at Oregon, because he was certainly able to get loads of mileage out of his players -- and they were all high school recruits; very few transfers, and the portal didn't exist.
There was that payola thing in Texas with Sistrunk -- or whatever the fuck his name was. But many of the kids that ended up at Oregon were unheralded in high school, and he just got a lot out of them. He is getting some good play out of some UCLA players who were recruited in high school, but not at the level he did at Oregon. It's kinda weird.
At the end of the say, he just wants to coach. That's it. That's why I think he leaves for the NFL.
He put a lot of this team together through the portal. His record just confirms to him that it's working. He has been public about not prioritizing high school kids anymore. Remains to be seen if he's right.
Think about it from his point of view. He gets a kid that he knows that can play football at the division 1 level. He doesn't have to deal with primadonnas that will just leave his team if they are unhappy about playing time after spending so much time developing them.
College football has turned into rooting for laundry. sc
Regardless of what happens today or the rest of this season, he won't be there much longer.
I remember saying that was a dumb idea….
