I grew up an SC fan and SC was the only place I wanted to go.

But it was more expensive than I could afford, so I spent my senior year of high school looking for scholarships. Finally got one from the State of California. Can it get better than going to SC and having the State pay the bill?

Under no circumstances would I have gone to UCLA, where most of my friends wound up. I didn't even apply there. The only place I applied other than SC was LA State, because my dad's office was nearby.

Had I not gone to SC I would have remained a fan. Like my daughter, who grew up with me and went to a Division II college back East. Full-time SC honk.

go live in your hypothetical world. My kids are grown and live all over the world. I have no idea if they watch the usc nd game. My youngest usually knows what happened.

people can buy a t shirt they want. It’s a free country. But is there a difference between some guy whose dad bought in a t shirt and he was in love with Charles white via man crush and me? I lived on campus for 4 years. Played ifc sports. Knew most of the HH staff which wasn’t anything to brag about back then. Was a 4 year fraternity member and officer. Trojan knight and squire. And paid my $50 a year to belong to Trojan college republicans like everyone else. Didnt attend a single meeting lol. I had some great profs and some turds. Went to about every football game there was and had the greatest time ever. Graduated with a deans list gpa but not much above the minimum for it.

After graduating supported university with tickets money etc. Shoot i’ve been to more USC basketball games as an alumnus that I did as a student. Not saying much given our team back then lol. Lifetime c and g and all that. If Ron Orr Tim tessalone and company weren’t such self absorbed pricks they’d likely have gotten a lot of money out of me. But they don’t care. Slam a few beers and burp and some fat dude who inherited dads money and real estate gets a hard on when an assistant coach slaps him on the back and says “wow you look like you could still play”. As if. And the fat dude pops for $100k. So that’s not me either.

So. T shirt Trojan same as me? Nope. Not even close. I’m no 5th generation SCion and all that. But who’d want to even be called that w the crappy car with that name. But I’m absolutely more Trojan then some dude who buys a shirt.

I actually went to more games in person last year than you have in the last decade. Mmmm year before that. Same. Our standards for commitment are much different. You think you’re a great Trojan if you watch a game on tv. I feel guilty that after having had 4-5 really nice seats for 35 years I go to a couple games a year now and find it easier to get tickets off stub hub than to have to commit to the date and 5 others almost a year in advance. The difference? I still go. Might go more often once her kids all leave.

Several of my friends went the sc gator route. Sold baseball cards through hs and college. Waited tables. Went to jc. Took student loans out the butt. And went to usc for the shortest time possible to get a degree. Man they loved it too. Worked hard for their degree.
