It’s comical watching Mario williams implode. Now I get it. One play Caleb went undernea th to Addison and Mario was alone in the end zone. Another play Caleb thfew behind him and he got own up. Another play dawn overthrew him. One other he threw to him and the db made a play through his back. Another play he was overlooked wide open again.
so he had about 2 ignores. 2 breakups. Two overthrows. And a couple catches too. And Mario basically had a tantrum. I mean I get it. We all have those days when everything goes wrong but he probably needs to calm down. Grow up a little bit and let some of that stuff go. Qb won’t see everyone. Qb gonna make some bad throws. And you’re gonna drop a few too.
what is really interesting about the replay is that Fresno dictated to usc how they were going to play. Took away what usc wanted to do. Fresno is a solid team. Reminds me of when usc went to byu and got beat. Slovis I think. Byu played 8 men deep and the usc qb couldn’t handle it.
anyway Fresno said if you’re gonna beat us then you need to play ball control. Run it. Short passes. Lot of plays. Eat clock. And usc was patient enough most of the time to do just that. Impressive they could. The usc offense that went to byu could not or would not.
Tedford is not a great coach, but he is a good coach. He often schemes well for SC even when the talent gap is enormous. Credit to Riley, the older SC teams - not just Helton but Sark and Kiffin would just keep doing the same thing on O, pounding their head into the wall. This team made adjustments. Do I wish they would have run the ball more? Yes. Do I wish Williams didn't look for the home run ball as much as he did? Yes. But the team did enough of those things to win, and they didn't pound their ehad into the wall trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
this is the way usc needs to approach the game. Long plays and bombs look good on espn and get you noticed, but they aren't the way you game plan, and they are a good way to burn out a questionable defense. Lane Kiffin could never figure this out, and now he's living in a part of the country better known for Elvis's birthplace than football. You reap what you sow.
