Apparently Newsom who is the most powerful man in the state has decided UCLA has to stay. He has a lot of leverage over the Regents and is not afraid to use it, especially since he has a good shot at being POTUS in 2 years. The UCLA Chancellor is under a lot of pressure to syay. He is a fervent Democrat and does not want to be ostracized by the club. Looks like the Democrat Party machine is not going to let this happen. All in all, I’m glad. The Bruins will be in the playoff hunt every year and the easy path will be a big incentive for a prospective coach.

This is assuming the Bruins next coach isn’t another whiff. Look at what DeBoer has done with UW - contention one year after being below .500. It’s just a matter of luck with these hires.
Whatever Newsome says or does he is probably on the wrong side. If you doubt this then note the exodus from our beautiful state of California. This has never happened before and Gavin is the primary reason with his decision making.
USC has been down the last decade thanks to inept leadership and coaching and the ncaa witch hunt. How many playoffs have the pac and ucla been involved in?
I don't see the "easy path" routine holding much water, and even less now that USC has corrected many of the errors of its ways. When they start dominating recruiting in the LA basin again, I don't see the pac having any better chance at a meaningful playoff run than the mountain west will have. You will be SEC/Big 10 fodder for first round games at best.
