For the most part well coached. Less and less impressed with Caleb Williams as time goes on. Greedy. Impulsive. immature. Some really bad throws. Hard to overthrow a wide open 6’5 tight end in the end zone but he did it. Coach saved him twice as time ran out.

caleb has a long way to go. He’s going to lose usc games Less pressure on him than the last two weeks. And yet he still underperformed.

some say it take ten or more starts for a quarterback to master the college game and take control of an offense, with the magic number being around 13 games

so we are now at the tipping point of what you see is what you get

the good news, is I don't think he has a pattern of making the same mistake twice,

with the exception of not seeing wide open receiver that are more than 20y down field

I open to the idea that he is still learning to read a defense post snap

@ Utah should be a very good marker as to what he has learned so far

Well running out of bounds and not throwing the ball away continues. that can be fixed in 30 seconds.

locking on your receivers is tougher because that’s like adjusting your swing in bb. Easy to do in the cage. But live? Mmmmm I dunno. very hard to carry that to the box. I play beer league softball and screw that one up. Cage adjustments remind myself going to the plate. Pitch comes and “what the f? Omg. How did you remind yourself AS YOU CLIMBED in the box. And still you lunged for the short pitch. Got off balance dropped your hands” etc. And so that’s how sports go.

the insistence on going long on first down when on his own side of the field has to stop. First down on this side of the 50 needs to be a 3-10 yard play but safe. because usc runs on second down. Almost always. So being in 2nd and long with a predictable run sets up 3rd and 7. From your own 30? No bueno.

he has 6 starts with usc. And I don’t count his time at ok for much. So if 13 starts is the barometer he probably has a couple more to go in my book.

he is so far from being the Superman #1 pick though. It’s not even funny. I’d be shocked if In the next 17 games he turned into that

Good takes on Caleb. That said, and Maybe it’s just me, but on 4th and anything, I feel good with Caleb as the trigger man. Like I felt with Sam and Leinart. And I feel good with the guy coaching him. I have rarely seen a coach go sit on the bench with his QB , in game. It appears that Riley knows he has a player that gets down on himself and needs to be in his head, talking to him.

he can make great plays. They are becoming fewer and further between. I said at osu that usc had a problem when I saw that attitude.

actually I saw it in interviews when he. Who had accomplished nothing. Was talking about being up there w the heisman greats and being the best who ever played etc. I’m like geez let’s win some games first.

so yeah he’s shown flashes. He has potential. he doesn’t interview well but we know articulate and intellect isn’t always football smart or Vice versa.

but right now? The last 3 games? This guy is absolutely average. Or below.

Caleb is regressing from earlier in the year and the offense with him. He had better find his mojo again for next Saturday or it will be a loss for sure. Dye has been great and the 2nd half defense has been solid, but I wish they could do it for 60 minutes.

Agree and it’s his own decision making. Williams is very Harrell or helton like He wi throw deep on first down. Not really have a play. Then run on second. Setting up 3rd and long. When you do that in 3 down territory it limits options and cost usc 2-3 times last night. Williams like many college qb doesn’t appear to look through his options. He almost always throws where he’s looking. And he made at least 4-4 really bad throws. I think he was about 16-28 for 180 yards. Nothing special

worse than the 3 FGs were the 3 & outs, one deep in our end of the EZ. We're losing the consistency we had earlier (against weaker teams).
