Good time to be a contractor on the west side, buy your project upgrades (power panels, appliances, whatever) ASAP, because the lead times are about to get crazy. Hopefully winds don't change too much, but they look like they are going to shift and move things my way a bit, so off to go keep Mrs. Stalker from filling up the cars with only her stuff and leaving mine to chance. Stay safe, Amigos.

I'm fine. Thanks.
everything cool here, thanks for asking
some friends from the Pasadena/San Marino area have come south to the OC after being told to evacuate
don't think their places will burn, but then you never know
Horror story. Had 2 friends in N. Calif. Their houses were burned down to the ground by a big wildfire.. They had to take their insurance company to court for inadequate settlement. They had to hire lawyers ($65,000), finally won a satisfactory settlement. But, they learned fire insurance does not cover for the complete clean up.
In any fire, inspectors must deem the property safe of toxic hazards before the rebuild; and the cost is expensive out of pocket for home owners. The freaken clean up outfit final bill = $175,000.
Have good friend and wife house in a fire zone. 3 years ago, they were cancelled. Could not find an Ins company to insure their house for fire. Got the Calif FAIR plan and policy but it is very expensive. And, it is not full coverage (no coverage on personal and other home coverage (only the structure) Before being cancelled, their home premiums = around $2,000, full coverage.
Their FAIR premiums = $6,000 + had to buy supplement insurance for the personal and liability coverage = $1,900. Total $7,900 for full home coverage and they are like us seniors on fixed income.
Florida is even worst. Have friends who recently got cancelled due all the Hurricanes. 12 years ago, they were paying $2,500 for full coverage. Today, they are paying $12,500 and not full coverage. Crazy sheet. They want to move, but can't sell their house. Florida is loaded with for sale listings and no bites. Many are stuck in Florida. Oh, damages from Hurricanes in the last 4 years, est 425,000 claims have not been settled by their Ins company Most are in the courts system. BS, what good is buying insurance.
PS. Heck, if you're a lawyer better move & practice in Florida; mucho money to made there.
When we moved to S. Calif in 1975. Co-workers and friends told us be careful when we were ready to buy a house, make sure house is not tag in a fire zone. They told us any insurance company knows fire zones areas.
We had Santa Ana's just like this around the time of the big earthquake up in the LA Sylmar area back in the early 70's. I was a little kid, but I remember the earth quake tossing a foot of water out of our swimming pool . So cool.
Anyways the winds burned down the same area that it burned down again 20 years later, and these idiots will rebuild and just like 30 years ago the area that burnt down this time up in LA will burn down again.
Man has NO control over nature. Greenland is called greenland because hundreds of years ago it was actually GREEN compared to iceland. And they had hardly any SUV's back then.
California will just jack water rates up again. Fireman will demand more money all over the state. YAWN. sc
Absolutely terrible what's going on. I saw a lady being interviewed on tv who said she is defying orders to evacuate because she doesn't have fire insurance on the house. She was watering her roof. I wonder how many people were canceled or unable to get insurance. I had to replace a roof and clear trees to keep the insurance on my mountain house. State Farm wouldn't renew me other wise. These insurance companies are not right. Their CEO's will, maybe, become a target too.
