#4 N, St John Bosco (W) vs #9 N, Chaminade Madonna, Fl, 34-27. Very good game, hard hitting, both sides A+ D, A+ team speed. Big freaken boys. The visiting team has a 14 pts swing, SJB traveled to Fl. The true score = 48-27 or 34-13. Very impressed with both teams. SJB soph RB put on 25+ lbs according to C.Negro and held on to his speed. He ran for a 76 yd TD, out running CM DB’s with ease.
SJB Qb is OK, nothing special. He's the least talented Qb in 20 years for SJB.
#2 N, Bishop Gorman, Las Vegas (W) vs #11 N, St Thomas Aquinas, 29-21. Again very good game, very close. Both sides had A+ team speed and very huge OL and DL. Very impressed with both teams.
Mater Dei had better come out fired up when they play Bishop Gorman, 9-6-24. It’s gonna be a hard fought game. Mater Dei D might be the difference maker, in the end winning the game.
11-01-24 SS CIF Games
Mater Dei, #1 SS, #1 N (W) vs OLu-Orange Lutheran, #3 SS, #15 N, 38-14 See YouTube HL video. Hard hitting game. OLu came out and played MD hard, both team played a very physical game. Like MD, OLu is a big (size) team as well. Again, the difference was MD’s D. And, who says Calif FB is soft? Just stupid thinking.
MD’s All CIF, Soph TE, Bowman scored on a 90 yd TD pass, but was called back for a penalty ( I did not see one?) BS. Again MD QB Beierly had a very good game, ran for a 76 yd TD and ran over LB’s. Man he is one strong running QB. All State RB, Jordan Davison ran hard and pounded OLu’s front 7, love this guy hard running style. Sorry could not find any game stats…

St John Bosco, #2 SS, #8 N (W) vs J.Serra Catholic, #6 SS, 44-24
Mission Viejo, #4 SS, #9 N (W) vs Los Al-Alamitos, #18 SS, 40-14
Centennial Corona, #5 SS, #23 N (W) vs Chaparral, # 17 SS, 54-12
Santa Margarita, #9 SS (W) vs Servite, #7 SS, 44-8 Big upset and scoring margin. I’m betting Servite had key players injured and did not play. Even with the win, Santa Margarita should be in the D-2 SS CIF playoff's draw/bracket.
The 8 team draw, 1-8 for the SS CIF D-1 playoff next week should look something like this. This 2024 playoffs are gonna be very competitive. The top 5 teams are without doubt top 25 ranked national teams.
Mater Dei
St John Bosco
Mission Viejo
Centennial
OLu
J.Serra
Sierra Canyon
Servite

Just a theory, but I think I got it figured out. I’ve seen a pattern with Mater Dei’s style of play. What separates these Mater Dei teams from 99% of all teams is they are Extremely Physical, they hit, tackle, block hard. MD's D is mean & nasty, almost like how the old (60's & 70's) Oakland Raiders played. One technique they do is gang tackle by one player grabbing the lower legs and the other 2 guys hitting them high. The other technique is picking up/lifting the QB, RB and WR and slamming them into the ground. OL drive block & pan cake. DL hard bull rush.
Mater Dei starts hitting hard at the start of the 1st qt. And, I’ve notice that most teams just give up and quit after 6 minutes. I think these teams must think, man we got to endure this hard hitting another 3 ½ qts? Every game MD is penalized mucho due to their rough play. The players ignore the penalties and just keep hitting hard. Shoot, I think they are coached that way.
The great teams of the past De La Salle, Canyon Country, Bishop Amat, Loyola, Banning, Carson, Bakersfield, Antelope Valley were extremely physical teams (hard run game and monster D’s). Remember back in the 50’s to 70’s the hard, pounding run game of USC, Bama, Michigan, Ohio St, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn St, Texas, UGA, Arkansas made them the top teams in college. Even today, the teams that have won the recent NC, Bama, UGA, Michigan, Clemson have a balanced O, but run an Old School, hard run game.
An Air Raid or passing type O in college has never won a NC. I believe if C LR just change his run game into more physical style and get his boys in top FB condition he/USC would be in the CFP. C LR teams lack top conditioning and soft. But, I notice this 2024 team is more physical (due to DC DA Lynn and other D AC’s). Hopefully, next spring camp and summer camp they practice harder and get in better FB condition. Cheers.
Is this Mater Dei team the best in HS FB history? 59-14 vs the #2 team is quite impressive.
10-25-24
Mater Dei, # 1N vs St John Bosco, # 2N. Once again big time match up; they are the top 2 teams in nation. It's a regular season, Trinity league game. The teams are pretty much even with the D edge to MD. SJB will have their new QB1, Koa Malau, 9th grader. Koa does not play anywhere like a freshman. MD's quick and speedy DE and LB are going to give Koa fits and trouble.
I predict MD pull out the win, 31-21.
9-20-24
Top games from the SS CIF and NS CIF
No stats are available. Stats at Maxprep takes 3 to 5 days to appear (in the rears). Stats and scores are on the honor system by HS coaches.
#1 N, #1 Calif, Mater Dei (W) vs #24 N St Frances, Baltimore, Md, 25-14. Looks like it was a hard fought game. It's tough going on the road and travel 3,000 miles Game played at Baltimore, Md.
#3 N, #3 Calf, St John Bosco, SJB (W) vs #19 Calif, Pittsburg, NS Calif, 35-14. Saw the game on TV, Bally's Sport. I was very impressed with Pittsburg team. They gave SJB a tuff time. I feel Pittsburg although losing should jump to # 10 to #12 Calif. My ratings 1-10. Pittsburg: O = 8, D = 8, T.speed = 8, OL & DL = 7, QB = 8, RB = 8. They have 2 RB’s 210 and 220 lbs.. In the end, SJB size and better T speed caught up to Pittsburg. This was a very good game.
My ratings for SJB: O = 9, D = 9, T speed = 9, Size = 10. QB is only a 6+, RB’s = 8.
#10 N, #2 Calif Mission Viejo (W) vs #86 N, #3 Az, Basha HS, Chandler Az, 31-28. Very close game, squeaker. Don’t let Basha national rankings fool you, it should be higher. I feel Maxprep under rate Arizona schools. I’ve seen Az top FB programs over the years and feel they play A+ FB. I’m impressed how Arizona HS play, they are big, fast and run sophisticated O and D.
Over all, I believe HS FB teams from Calif, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Utah, Texas and Hawaii run sophisticated O & D vs other regions of the country.
#20 N, #8 Calif, De La Salle (W) vs #44 Calif St. Mary HS, Stockton, 38-35. O shootout, hard fought and very close game. Looks like DLS has a very good team 2024. St Mary has top FB program (O = passing attack).
#7 N, #3 Ga, Carrollton (W) vs #5 Al, AH Parker HS, Alabama, 48-26. Saw the game on ESPN, high scoring game. Very good teams, but I think Carrollton is overrated at #7 N. After seeing most of the top teams, I feel Carrollton = #18 to #20. Both teams have very big OL & DL.
QB JuJu Lewis, Jr (seen him play 4 times in 3 years), I think he’s only a 4* Qb. He lacks top arm strength, avg zip, velocity and long balls. Avg athlete, does not run if things breaks down. He is small 6-0, 175 lbs, hopefully, when he gets to USC he grows and get much stronger. Got to remember he is only in 11th grade. Lewis threw very little with only 1 TD. Caroll pass/run ration = 40% to 60%, they run more.
5 games stats (this 6th game is Not included) for JJ Lewis = 86/109 = 79%, avg 11/22 passes pg, 1218 Tyds, 244 ypg, 20 TD’s, 146 QBR. Yep, Lewis does not pass much. 2026 class, QB Ryder Lyons, 4*, Folsom, Ca is a way better QB. Ryder has a stronger arm, very athletic, runs well extending plays. He's fast for a QB.
9-06-24
Mater Dei #1 N (W) vs Bishop Gorman #2 N. 31-15
Hah, this was a classic beat down, MD dominated BG in every facet of the game. Scores can be deceiving and last night game could have been much worst. MD had 120 yds in flags/penalties. They got flags for hitting too hard, roughing the QB, etc. MD penalties killed 2 scoring drives (red zone) which would have given them 14 more pts. On BG 2nd TD, they got help with MD penalties. The true score: 45-7
For all the people that say MD is overrated have no clue how good this FB program is. 1-10 with 10 being top score. D = 10+, O = 9. MD team speed = 10, size = 10, skill positions = 9. Man, last year D was 10+ but this year team is a bit off = 10.
Bishop Gorman got beat up, QB, RB, WR got hit and tackled hard. Their 2 QB's are good dual threats, but MD D’s sacked them 6 times and hurried a dozen more times. And, BG OL is one of the best in nation. Good lord MD front 7 manned handled BG OL. BG had a grand total of 150 yds: 100 rushing, 50 yds passing. After the 1st half GB O had 40 yds rushing & 30 yds passing.
MD’s QB, A. Beierly, 4* and rated #5 QB in Calif shook off his 1st game rust, passing for 13/15, 99 yds, 2 TD’s, ran for 50 yds and moved the chains. Beierly is 6-1, 210 lbs, he ran over BG LB’s and shook off DL tackles. He is a strong guy. He had a very good game.
Jordon Davison, 5* RB ran for 122 hard yds + 2 TD’s. It took 3 BG players take him down. MD LB’s of Nasir Wyatt, A.Sanders, S.Scott has to be the best trio in nation. They are very fast, strong and hard tacklers. MD’s DL was a force against BG top OL unit. Man, DL Tomu Topui, Jr, 6-2, 325 lbs is a man among boys. He should get his 5* after this year. Most of all currently he is leaning towards USC (we must get this one). OL, Kodi Greene is one of the best OL in nation (freaken Ducks getting this OS OL.) Bad, 5* WR Chris Henry got a bad injury, hope it’s not season ending?
There is only one team that can beat MD and it’s St John Bosco. These 2 will go after the SS CIF & State titles once again. Although, Mission Viejo, Orange Lutheran and J Serra Catholic are very good teams that could upset these 2. Look out for Mission Viejo, they're a very good team this year.
Top HS FB games, 9-13 & 9-14-24
#1 N Mater Dei (W) vs @ #41 N Kahuku, Hi, 38-7. Kahuku #1 Hi always gives Mater Dei and SJB a hard time, especially at their home field. Like I mentioned, Kahuku can't match up with MD's team speed.
#2 N St John Bosco (W) vs #39 N Junipero Serra, 56-16. J.Serra is Northern CIF top team and have played in the state finals for the last 7 years and lost Big each time. Hell, SJB and Mater Dei are too good.
#44 N Centennial, Corona (W) vs #16 Lone Peak, Utah 49-35. It was a shoot out. Lone Peak is Utah’s top team and beat #2 Utah Corner Canyon last week. Was this an upset by Centennial, I don’t believe so. Cent is top 4 team in Calif.
#10 N, #2 Ca, Mission Viejo (W) vs Highland, Palmdale, 63-6. Mission Viejo will give SJB and MD a hard game this year. Maybe could pull off the upset?
#5 N Bishop Gorman (W) vs #19 N Orange Lutheran, Ca, 55-28. Big win for BG, they ran over a very good OLu & top ranked SS CIF team. Both teams have big OL & DL.
9-14-24
Sorry Folks, Big Game Vista corrected me. Bad info, SJB vs Duncanville do not play tomorrow or even on schedule this season. Don't know what I was looking at Maxpreps, but I got things so very wrong.
Big game. St John Bosco, #2 N vs. Duncanville, Tx, #4 N, 9-14-24, Saturday. Game at Duncanville, Tx. Not sure if ESPN is covering the game. You can watch it on You Tube. Going to be a hard fought game, I predict SJB wins 38-24. Duncanville has a strong team once again, and beating their opponents easily and 2-0. But, they are going against SJB.
3 years ago, 2021 Mater Dei # 1 N crushed Duncanville # 10 N, 45-3 at Duncanville. Duncanville HC said, "MD was the best team he has seen and coached against. He said their team speed at all positions were insane. And, their OL and DL were big and strong as heck. They pushed us around like no other team."
8-30-24
#1. Santa Margarita, #7 Ca (W) vs Centennial #2 Ca, 31-15. Upset? SM dominated Cent last night. SM has a huge OL and DL units. SM Trent Mosley, 4+* Wr and all everything is something else. Mosley caught 11, 217 yds, 2 TD’s, ran for 7 yds, 2 TD’s. He is fast, shifty, tough-hard runner after the catch. Looks to me about 11.0 to 10.9 100m speed. Freaken C.LR had better go hard after this amazing player. 2023, T.Mosley caught 81, 1,282 yds, 11 TD’s, ran for 270 yds, 5 TlD’s, All State. He is 5-11, 170 lbs.
Note: Santa Margarita loss big vs Mission Viejo, #3 Ca, 7-35 last week. Looks like Mission Viejo has a monster team 2024. All State WR, Phil Bell had a big game, got get this boy. Looks like he’s all Ohio St.
Cent, 5* QB, H.Longstreet had a really bad game, hell he did not play well. Cent had a very bad game, worst game I’ve ever saw. Something was up with the entire team. Maybe the big loss last week vs Mater Dei killed their spirit?
#2. St John Bosco #3 Ca (W) vs Eastwood, Texas, 71-14. SJB ran over this poor HS from El Paso, Texas. Why did Eastwood who is ranked #248 in Texas schedule this game? Stupid, no business playing SJB. It was a big mismatch from the beginning.
#3. 9-06-24 the BIG Game, #1 N & Ca Mater Dei vs Bishop Gorman #2 N. You guys must see the game. I will be glued to the TV for this one.
