I certainly hope The Grinch had very little to do with recruiting the players on Oklahoma's defense.

Head Coaching is not the same as being a DC. He also hired his DC. Add the fact he was not the key recruiter at Clemson. I suggest that he is above his head trying to be a Head Coach and probably one of the reasons it took him so long to become one. Perhaps he has the "Norm Chow" syndrome. Seems to me that after Grinch was hired Oklahoma's defense improved and was better then the one under Stoops. His last year at OU he dealt with tons of injuries especially in the DB area. He produced an outstanding D at WSU and tackling and ball awareness appears to be greatly improved at USC. I guess I don't get your point. As an example their top recruit a LBer from this years class was all over the field making tackles and Venables by name calls him out for not knowing what he is doing out there..

As far as Grinch goes. The jury is still out. He had a good rep at WSU years ago doing a lot with not much talent.

I like his no nonsense approach. I like the tackling better than your hero Hugs' teams. I like his admission of the lack of size and talent on the d line that he needs to address. Most of all I have liked his halftime adjustments. So lots to like there.

Not impressed so far with the Talent he has been able to recruit , but it's early and the portal. Again it's early.

This team quit on Venables. As you mentioned at the time, holding try outs in October was a slap to his team. Didn’t work the way Venables anticipated or hoped.

Not really...he is a decent DC that when he has talent can put a damn good defense on the field especially if he has weeks to prepare but I've never seen the guy coach a defense up...when he's lacked talent he has been mediocre...and looking at his team...his hiring of assistants has to be questionable...I'd bet their a couple holdovers that wished they had joined Riley at USC but decided to stick it out at OU..

maybe he's the perfect example of the Peter Principle. happens in every field.

I know I sucked at what I did after a big promotion years ago. I am way to politically incorrect, call thing as I see them, lack the ability to be two faced, etc. all that stuff that is required to attend meeting with huge mahogany tables and water pitchers. Apparently calling a PROVEN liar a liar is just not acceptable the higher you get, the bluer the hair of the attendees, etc.
