He ran four times. Two per half. All to the right side. All successfully. That was strategic. 10 is a bit much for a qb. Nebraska was allowing 89 yards a game on the ground. 9th in America I think. They had not allowed a rushing td in first 5 games. USC scored one. Maiava. And USC ran for 182 officially and actually about 195 w the two bump passes.
USC did an excellent job creating a run game yesterday
1st time starting (jitters), played well enough, most importantly won the game. He's better vs Moss. He ran for positive yds, kept the D off balance, moved the chains and kept the momentum. Sure he made careless mistakes ( a pick 6 IT and 2 costly fumbles), he knows that. I think he will clean that part up.
He rebounded well. Very good short term memory and regrouping ability. I like Maiava as QB1.
Nice summary. I agree with you, but admit I’m still a little concerned with some of his throws. Even some of the short range throws were not pretty. Joyner’s TD on the screen was all him (poor 7 yard throw). Zero touch or accuracy on that pass.
My question is can Maiava be coached up more. I’ll be more specific- Can Maiava reduce the mistakes (int’s) and improve on his throws? CLR needs to earn his money here…. Look at the FSU QB who played at 3 schools. Kid looked more poised and played so much better at Oreg St than he did at Clemson or at his current school, FSU. Coaching
Xlent points Brad. We got to remember, Maiava was a last minute, plan B QB for C. LR, all the plan A QB's turned him down. He was the best plan B QB left. Oh yeah, USC almost lost him too. Maiava picked UGA over USC, but 4 days later changed his mind, de-committed and signed with USC. That was a very close call. Hell, the team needed to get a decent reserve.
C. LR does not have much choice now with 2 games left, Maiava is QB1. The kid has Moxie and Mojo which is very important for a QB... Cheers.
Closest thing was when they hit his elbow but that’s a sack situation not a too short or arm motion. I’ve been harping on this all year and I think the lack of. Say 3-4 batted balls either in his face or at the line. Matters. A lot. I’m not exaggerating. It was about 3 a game
Moss throws floaters. So much the announcers make fun of him. Maiava threw a couple early because I think the coaches told him to let his wr fight for the ball. 50 50. So he did and went deep early. Then dialed it back. He has plenty of arm strength

Except:
He's slow-ish and doesn't "want to be a running QB".
Trickery doesn't work 10 times, it works 3.
He's a fumbling fool.
His body is fragile and you have NO BACKUP.
Actually, if you ran him 10 times per game, you'd be Nevada Reno (where he belongs)
