1990: Oregon 11-0 and undisputed national champion as long as they beat Penn State in the Rose Bowl. I present: Your beauty contest of the only undefeated team remaining. And theoretically since Oregon beat PSU already in basically a bowl game in Indy, Oregon would be national champions.....if this were 1990. We quacks are already taking a bow now for our first-ever MNC. See? Isn't mythological cr@p fun?!
2000: 1 Oregon vs 2 Georgia - at least we FINALLY have a champ game featuring 1 vs 2. (ND is a possibility here, too).
2015: 1 Oregon vs 4 Texas in the Rose Bowl; 2 Georgia vs 3 ND in the Sugar Bowl. Not bad, but feel bad for PSU, tOSU.
2025: Twelve teams, with a true champion to emerge...finally. Only thing better would be no advantage given to winning your conference except earning an auto bid as in the NCAA tournament. Four byes to the top 4 teams.
It's called progress, people.
As for this years playoffs . I have no expectations of a Natty.
Whether due to injuries, coaching mistakes, sheety performances, or the other team just being flat out better. The Ducks find a way to lose.
I’d actually rather lose early in the playoffs ( Rose Bowl), then win two games and then lose in the finals. Who wants another 2nd place participant ribbon. more of the can’t win the big one. Zero natties. Trust me 15-1 would be the worse outcome. All that work and effort for nothing, Nadia, zip.
Better yet, if today were 1964, your Ducks would already have been crowned national champs and the post-season games would be just for show.
And if it were 1964, Notre Dame would still be relevant.
Glad you think that. I don't think so. See if you feel that way if Oregon gets beat and 3 loss Clemson is crowned National Champs. Find one person who thinks the NHL playoffs are great or that MLB has improved things by muddling their playoff system
