Riley, max Williams and Caleb Williams.
Caleb and Max didn't say a lot. Max was happy to be back after being injured so much his career. Got praise for coming back and playing multiple positions. Caleb wanted to chime in w stuff about the team, Max the offense, but didn't have much to say.
Riley was funny. All his words were "hey, look at a year ago, this series has been one sided recently, so we aren't UNhappy. We are happy with the win. Road win, etc, Stanford's a good team"
So the words were thankful and encouraging. But man you could see his demeanor. His tone. His mannerisms. He isn't happy. He was happy with the turnovers. Happy USC didn't turn it over. Thought several of the PI calls were good coverage and they'd take that play again. It's what we teach he said. Said he thought the team was physical. Played hard football defensively and poked several balls out. And the OL he said protected the QB. I thought he said more by his tone and what he didn't say than what he did. He said he felt USC's "highs" were as high as they'd like. They look really good. But he said their lows, their floor? Really needs to be elevated. That there should be a minimum level of play that is above what they have shown so far. I thought that an interesting commentary and I get that. Classic case of "when we are good we are good, but when we are bad we are really bad"
My opinion: Caleb Williams is not elusive. He is athletic. He makes good decisions. He runs to open space when it's obvious. But when the pocket breaks down? He's not going to wiggle out of or run out of a sack. He's fast for a QB but not fast for an "athletic" QB. And he's not elusive. Not like Bryce Young. So credit to him for not being afraid to take off. But Frank Tarkenton hes not..
That's because Caleb is a bigger tough guy.
Young is a little dude. Quick, smart, but fragile.
Little dudes have to be elusive.
I remember posting that Carson was so big and strong in high school that he just swatted away defenders like flies. Warned he was an injury waiting to happen at the next level. Then he took on a hit in Oregon and broke his clavicle.
wound up working out well for Carson and USC.
I will continue to post that keeping Caleb upright is USC's only chance to beat anyone this year. sc
Caleb is faster thzn FRANCIS Tarkenton....our defense isn't
