...how the subject of academic prestige enters into the argument whenever anybody starts talking seriously about the realignment of athletic conferences, now and in the future? Stanford and California are often included because they're orphans, or soon will be, so their academic reputation somehow filters its way into the conversation.
But the thing is, with the way college sports is right now, and with the way these realignments are happening, does anybody really, truly, seriously think that anybody else gives a flying fuck what the academic reputation is of any university today WRT sports?
It's actually quite insulting.
what would be more insulting would be to have ether of those schools competing in a Conference loaded with big time programs and downright embarassing to watch..
I don't even think the players should have to go to class at this point. The degree should be in the sport they play. DTR could be Dr. Football.
Your cynicism is well put. NIL, Portal, TV revinue is all that matters. College football now has the status of Street Walkers.
Is this supposed to be new "news"??
The SEC has owned college football and really college athletics for 15 years now. It's clear Academics do not matter.
