Did you know it's the strength and conditioning coach who has those towel waivers cheering on the sidelines? CLR allowed that nonsense because the S&C faggot thought it was a great game day idea.
Clearly the D is the problem and caused the loss. It forces the SC offense to be nearly perfect. And it nearly was. But if you just assume that UW would score a TD every time they had the ball, which is what I assumed, then you focus your attention on the SC offense, which was nearly perfect. That's why the hold by 19 and subsequent sack of Caleb was crucial because SC could have tied the game there and even if UW scores a TD on the following possession, as I expected they would, SC could have tied the game again with a TD and possibly could have won with a 2 point conversion. So those plays did cost SC the game, if you're putting the game entirely in the hands of the offense with no expectation of the defense contributing anytjing. The offense and Caleb almost pulled it off. Make those plays and we might have won despite defense giving up score on 8 of 10 possessions
That's what I think a lot of people are missing when they criticize the offense. As bad as the defense played, and it was worse than bad, USC came pretty close to winning this game.
Everybody is concentrating on Williams' fumble and sack, and those were crucial plays. But how many times did he get out of trouble and make incredible passes and scrambles? With even a lousy defense, USC wins this game going away. But with one of the worst defenses in college football, you're right, the offense has to be perfect. Too much to ask.
It’s important to note that when we talk about changes, it’s not just one thing in isolation. It’s not just firing Alex Grinch as defensive coordinator. Other changes are needed beyond that one. The Trojans will probably need to make other internal staffing changes. The idea that Grinch is a one-person cure-all (get rid of him and everything gets better) is flawed.
Beyond staffing changes, Lincoln Riley has to realize that USC must practice differently and use different training methods. Current methods are simply not creating tougher football players, and toughness is where USC must improve.
Scoring 0 in the 4th quarter didn't help. Really only had the ball once. Uw controlled the ball and clock. And usc ate 6 minutes in their drive and scored nothing
