Arizona and head coach Jedd Fisch are “deep” in negotiations over a contract extension that would make him the highest-paid coach in program history, according to a report from WildcatAuthority’s Jason Scheer.
The deal has yet to be finalized. According to Scheer, the extension is expected to bump Fisch’s annual salary over $5 million per season (he currently has a $3.25 mil base salary) with incentives that could take it to $6 million.
Fisch received a contract extension through the 2027 season last December.
Fisch was linked to the Michigan State opening, briefly mentioned for the Texas A&M job, and would surely be a top option for the UCLA job if it were to come open. Amidst a 9-3 season that has Arizona playing some of the best ball of anyone in the country, Fisch has become a hot commodity on the coaching market.
The Wildcats’ 59-23 win over Arizona State last Saturday capped their best regular season since 2014. The Wildcats have won six straight games for the first time in a season since 1998. The four conference road victories also mark the most in a season since the ’98 campaign.
Following the Territorial Cup win, local reporters were told by Arizona athletic director Dave Heeke that the program planned to keep Fisch in town for a long time moving forward.
“Yeah, that sounds good to me,” Fisch said with a smile when asked about the remark in the postgame news conference. “That’s up to Dave. It sounds good. I’m certainly all for it.”
Fisch is in his third season with the program. Arizona went 1-11 in Year 1, then 5-7 last fall. The Wildcats’ nine wins this season equal the total number of victories Fisch’s predecessor had in his three years with the program.
“When Dave and Dr. Robbins interviewed me for the job, I didn’t say that I wanted to just win five games or four games,” Fisch said Saturday. “I had high aspirations for what we were going to do here. If I didn’t think we could win nine games, I wouldn’t have moved my family here. That’s what we wanted to do. We wanted to win.”
He deserves a raise. Very impressive 3 year turnaround.
It's either Lynn or Chip then.
