Listened to GM go into detail about the pros and cons of Jimmy Lake as our potential DC and it seems like the biggest issue might be his aversion to the Air Raid. However, CLR has shown that he doesn't run a true Air Raid and when he has a good line and backs he will run at least 50/50, sometimes even more towards the run.
Seems like Lake is a great recruiter and developer of secondary talent and knows the west coast. I think someone on here mentioned he's just an okay DC (and he was a co-DC with PK when they were leading the Pac in defense) but at this point we need credibility on the recruiting trail and even as HC his defenses at UW were still pretty decent. It doesn't seem like he and Cohen ended things on a bad note despite the dismissal and with him already being in LA, even a 1 or 2 year stint would be beneficial before he moves onto an NFL DC gig.
Yea as long as he doesn't push any of his players down! Haha. He's a fraud. Hope Cohen hires him
UW's defense 2014 - 2018 was PK's defense. Lake took over in 2019 and Husky fans saw the downward incline.
Lake was a very good recruiter when he was just the DB coach. As Co-DC/DC, his recruiting chops were on the downward incline too and sunk lower as HC.
Just my (and other's) observations, but we witnessed it first hand over 8 seasons. Go ahead and hire him.
Lake is a great DB coach but sucks as a DC and sucks even more as a HC
Riley needs to wake up and get a real offense. It will save his career. If lake facilitates that, that's a positive all the way around.
Fodder. Jen Cohen fired him. Ever rehired anyone you fired? Me neither
I listened to that also. It's an interesting potential dynamic where there would be tension/competition within the coaching ranks at USC. It doesn't seem like something Riley would be amenable to, but maybe not totally his call.
