That reminds me of back in the old days the day after Feb LOI Day the LA Times would invariably have articles on USC and UCLA. And then at the very back of the sports section they would list the names of the commits of all the other pac-8/pac-10 schools.
As a quack fan you didn't know who these guys were or if they were any good. Just a list and a name. Granted, nobody in LA cared much about an obsure conference school in Eugene only really known for track. So much for the good old days.
I think the only pub Oregon ever got nationally before the advent of the internet (which dovetailed with Oregon's rising relative football success) was when we landed RB Kevin Willhite in 1982, considered by many the #1 recruit in the nation. He was named the national high school player of the year in 1981 over Bo Jackson and Marcus Dupree. Quite the coup for a quack coach in those meager days.
I get a Los Angeles Times sports newsfeed on my phone desktop, and every story they publish is about 2 days old.
Long Beach Press Telegram was the best recruiting summary back in the day. sc
