UCLA even attempting to go after Lynn as HC would be absurd. And yet I wouldn't be surprised if that dumbass Jar Jar actually did, probably to save face from letting Lynn skip to USC (which he would have done anyway had Jar Jar done the smart thing and fired Fatty after the Kal disaster).
Some have equated Lynn with Tony White in this situation, i.e. good defensive coordinators who are young and hungry to prove themselves, so elevating them to HC makes sense despite the gamble (of them never having been a HC). I don't think it's the same thing. White has been successful as a DC at three different programs, for a total of five seaons. Lynn did well at UCLA, but he's only been a coordinator for a single year. Plus, White has a repuation as a relentless recruiter, and Lynn does not. Lynn did bring a couple of UCLA's best defenders with him to USC, but that was to be expected given the shitass situation developing with Fatty.
I say no to Lynn. He may be a head coach someday, and maybe a good one. But he needs to prove that his one year at UCLA was not just luck. I think he will do well at USC, but the proof will be in the pudding.
Ironically, it now looks like it might be tougher for Lynn to prove his worth at USC since he's been effectively made a "co-DC" -- something San Clemente alluded to early on but which I didn't put much faith in at the time. But it now looks that way.
I'm not sure why USC would effectively demote Lynn and still be willing to pay him twice what he was making at UCLA, but there it is. Maybe Lynn knew about the demotion and didn't care. Maybe he was so desperate to escape the incompetence of Fatty and Jar Jar that he would have gone to USC for free. Can't say I blame him now.
But no to Lynn as HC. I really hope that isn't seriously being considered.
UTLA is a big fan of the Chandeliers. They scheduled them when he was coach
From another angle, the Henderson hire makes more sense now.
