This is McNair's attorney Bruce Broillet who is kind of a big deal in LA area (Top 10 attorney/winner multiple times). Interestingly, his background is Texas and Notre Dame and has funded a bunch of fellowships/scholarships there. He is defending Todd McNair (his client) here bigtime, not USC, and I think he does a decent job. Better than Amber Heard's team for sure.
Keep in mind this is in 2018. McNair first filed the suit in 2011 and finally made it to trial in 2018. Unfortunately, they lost here by a 9-3 vote. But then McNair was given a new trial by presiding Judge the honorable Frederick Shaller who was a USC undergrad and Loyola law school grad. His background, before becoming a judge, was insurance/medical malpractice cases.
After Mcnair lost, the 2nd District Court of Appeals supported the retrial (Feb 2021) for legitimate legal reasons and then both parties settled out of court (July 2021) and with the undisclosed amount before new trial began. NCAA knew they couldnt rig the game two times in a row.
A few observations:
1) Yes, Paul Dee and his merry band wanted the death penalty for USC. They committed numerous infractions as stated in their own self governing by laws. That is covered in detail in this video which is filled with actual emails from the NCAA Employees.
2) They took the word of committed felon Lloyd Lake over McNair and/or anyone else on USC's side. Was not fair or balanced at all.
3) โInvestigationโ needed McNair to have a connection with program to take down USC.
Its ALL THEY HAD. Three 1-2 minute phone calls and a group party photo with McNair & Lakes.
4) Lakes had multiple mental lapses in his testimony and also was not allowed to be cross examined since he pleaded the 5th.
5) When retrial was granted (in 2021) it was noted that jury Foreman (from 2018 8-4 decision) worked at a law firm that represented NCAA and filed appeals for this case but he never disclosed that. That is basis for a retrial right there. Glad it was granted.
if USC fought as hard as McNair did they woulve owned the NCAA. Cowards. FU Haden.
