NCAA putting regulations in place for NIL

according to a report on Youtube....going to place a review on the contracts between athletes and third party agreement. IThere will be a Clearinghouse that will look over any deal over $600 by a third party not associated with the school. In other words they are going to look at the expenditures and guarantees that third parties are negotiating with the players. Not sure how effective this will be but it's a start..

logistically impossible given the sheer number of athletes and the fact that these would all have to be reviewed yearly. And frankly, this would probably have to withstand a legal challenge which it would lose. The horse left the barn. Too late now.

I disagree the NCAA always had a clearinghouse before NIL or the Portal and screened tons of athletes. Since schools are limited on how many scholarships they are allowed and there are a limited number of Div 1A schools the numbers aren't that great at the Div 1A level unless of course they review walk ons as well but in that case they still have a limit on the size of the rosters. Now if they include all divisions of football this could get quite large but they have accomplished screening before...as they cleared through the Clearinghouse approximately 200,000 athletes a year.

Say the Clearinghouse doesn’t like the verbiage in the Contract. So what? The local car dealer is gonna proceed with his commercial and pay the athlete. Then the NCAA suspends the player? Then the lawsuits.

Gonna take a lot more than that.

And I guarantee you the NCAA won't be backing anything up with repercussions. They are toothless. True reform won't happen until a different body takes control of things.

According to the report........if a kid and the third party don't get through the Clearinghouse he will be immediately be ineligible ......hopefully it flys because what is happening now is downright crazy...

You would think contracts between a person and another business would be confidential. Outside the IRS.

Plus they were talking NIL caps. There will be more lawsuits. If a player wants to receive $1 mil for one TV commercial, how does the clearinghouse nullify that because it’s over the Cap?

argument to that is the Florida deal that went sour, the Miami deal that went sour and the Texas A&M deals that went sour. The NCAA would argue that they are just watching out for the kids and keeping them away from nefarious third parties that won't live up to the contract...and they have huge examples of it. Also if I were the NCAA I would write a regulation that once a NIL offer is extended and the player accepts he is bound to a contract with that school for the period the contract has in place. In other words commitment means commitment.....period
