The portals and the NFL guys "addition by subtraction" Some teams have great players but aren't great teams.
This USC team shed the NIL guys. Played as they were coached. And won. Was it perfect? No. But the D did what you need to do in modern football. Gave up only 352 yards. Got a TO. Blocked a punt and kept the ball in front of them. Minimal penalties. They strrongly contributed to USC scoring 14, and can't be blamed for teh almost pick 6 the other way. Id say they gave up 21 and helped USC score 14. Great showing.
This USC team beats any other USC team that took the field this year. In any game. Riley is a great offensive mind and it's nice to have an offense that executes it and shows us his thought and creativity rather than a QB who vetoes coach with an audible or scramble every play.
No delay of game penalties. No holds as I can recall. No false starts. No ineligible men downfield. No pick plays. No illegal substitution.
Loved the soft screens and touch passes that help Riley create a run game with short passing. Appreciated Moss just ending a play when it wasn't there. Don't remember any 2nd or 3rd and 20 plays. A staple of a Caleb Williams offense
Miller just moved the ball downfield 3, 4, 5 yards at a time. and then tested deep. Remarkably the deep tests almost almost worked well. Loved the way he rolled the pocket. Wish he had run a bit more but they couldn't afford for him to get hit. Nice touch gettign the walk on a play on 4th down. Key time of game too. Kid will always remember that. He will tell his Grandkids it was 4th down. Game on the line. Coach brought me in and I converted and squeezed over the line TD and we won the game. My teammates all carried me off the field. LOL
Real insightful of Lynn to comment on how terrible it is to bail on a team before the season is over.
Yep, he ran the offense the way it's supposed to be run. Hitting guys in stride. Long pass if it's there. Check downs. If all else fails, throw it away and go onto the next play. It would be nice to see the run game become a bigger factor like it was at OU but the OL needs to improve and they'll get there. He's already building up the trenches and even the project guys have some serious potential even if their star rating doesn't reflect it.
