Yeah. You’re the 2nd ranked team in the nation. You’re the starting qb. In so cal. What do you do? Bail. Transfer to Hawaii and expect to start for your new team Saturday. No practice. Imagine being the old team. The new team or their qb and some Johnny California sunshine walks in
Wonder if there was money involved right? Everyone’s a whore these days.
Servite’s matchup this week against St. John Bosco in Trinity League football took a surprising turn Monday with the transfer of Braves starting quarterback Matai Fuiava to Kahuku in Hawaii.
On Tuesday, Fuiava’s older brother Robert confirmed that the junior has enrolled at Kahuku (6-3) and hopes to play Saturday against visiting Campbell (7-0), the No. 1-ranked team in Hawaii.
The in-season transfer makes freshman QB Koa Malau’ulu the likely starter for St. John Bosco (7-0, 2-0) when it faces Servite (6-1, 1-1) in the teams’ Brotherhood Bowl on Friday at SoFi Stadium.
Malau’ulu made his first and only start in the Braves’ Trinity League opener against Orange Lutheran on Oct 4. Fuiava was reported to be recovering from injuries and available but didn’t play as Malau’ulu rallied the Braves for a thrilling 28-24 victory.
Fuiava returned last week to start against Santa Margarita but split time with Malau’ulu in a 13-0 win.

Servite isn’t the only Orange County team that will be impacted by the change at St. John Bosco, ranked No. 2 in the nation by MaxPreps. The Braves play No. 1 Mater Dei next week and JSerra in Week 10 in the Trinity League.
Servite, ranked No. 31 in the nation by MaxPreps, has faced its own challenges at quarterback.
Starter Leo Hannan hasn’t played since an injury against Chaminade on Sept. 6. Friars coach Chris Reinert said last week that the Michigan State-committed senior is progressing in his recovery.
Last week, Servite started sophomore Colin O’Connor at quarterback against Mater Dei and played freshman Allen Kennett V.
Java, if you're thinking Kahuku may have bought the father to get his son Matai take over as QB1 is a dubious idea. 1st of all, Matai is not that good for Kahuku to do that. Hell in that case, Kahuku should have bought Koa's dad and get Koa be ther QB1 instead...
QB1 controversy St. John Bosco, Matai Fuiava mid season transfer to Kahuku HS, Hawaii? Found an article that stated no controversy. Apparently, brother said father got a new job in Kahuku and the entire family moved. Matai did not lose his QB1 job at SJB or left with ill will. Good luck to him. https://hawaiisportsradio.com/2024/10/16/fuiava-family-clears-the-air-on-qb-matai-fuaivas-move-from-st-john-bosco-to-kahuku/#:~:text=Per%20247%20Sports%2C%20Fuiava%20is,Braves%20and%20graduated%20in%202018.
Saw new QB1 Koa Malau, 9th grade, 6-2, 180 lbs 1st time last night game vs Servite. Wow, this kid is special, very good QB, great arm, has all the throws, cool and poised. Pro style-pocket QB, did not see him run nor extend plays with his legs. I rate him 1-10 = 8.5, that’s high considering he’s in 9th grade.
He is way better than former QB1 Matai Fuiava, who I rated 6.8, dual threat QB. Fuiava is the better athlete, but he does not have some throws. Weak on long balls, not accurate, pass wobbles, average field general. SJB is better off with Koa at QB1. Strange how things worked out in the end.
Koa Malau in my opinion falls into the All Time Top CIF young QB’s list (9th/10th graders). It’s very rare when a 9th or even 10th grader is an A+ QB. Koa is gonna have an amazing career at SJB HS.
Below is a list of some the very best young (9th/10th grade) HS QB’s that I saw. I will try my best to place them in ranking order. I’m sure missed some names, but this is a solid list.

Private jet back to Hawaii?
That is wild. Not only transferring in the middle of a great season with his current team, but across the ocean to just an ok team(by record).
Crazy sheet these types of transfer, right in the middle of the season. Zero loyalty, no concept of team. SJB did not lose that much, Matai Fuiava was the least talented QB in the last 20 years. Next man up...
Things are just getting sicker all the time. The Me generation is now the Me and Fuck Everybody Else generation.
