Rumor is that Bill Belichick will resign from the NFL to be the next coach at USC, because he wants to end his career as a winner. Also heard that Dungy and Parcells are coming with him as assistants, and Nick Saban has agreed to be recruiting coordinator. How is the weather on the island, Trojans?
USC doesn't have to play OR or UW this season. The only teams that have a realistic chance to beat USC are AZ St, Utah, UCLA and ND. I can't see USC doing worse than a split of those games which means a record of 10-2 which means Helton is safe for another year. Now, if those two losses come against UCLA and ND, that could be a different story.
i agree with this, i would take it a step further though, even 9-3 is survivable for Helton if he splits with the rivals and wins the conference. He has to win the conference or look really good losing to get another contract extension. Clay will really have to earn this extension (unlike the last one IMO)/
almost impossible for this to happen given our schedule. I would bet we will be 6-0 midseason before i bet 3-3 or even 4-2. If Clay loses more than one of the first six games, he should not be fired, he should be hung by the balls on the clock thats on the peristyle end of the Coliseum/ Tied to the seconds hand if the clock had one so we can watch him spin around.
Can't open....."The Athletic" teases you for 5 seconds....then floats the "Subscribe to read further" blocker....just like LA Times.

He could be fired mid season. If so, guys like Todd Orlando or Sean Snyder are more capable than Helton. Don't think Harrell would be a good option.
