Of spending high draft picks. And trading multiple picks to move up in the draft to get that elite qb. Then they end up with a high priced guy they can’t surround with talent and hope he leads them to success.
The. You have other teams. Like Green Bay. And Pittsburgh. That seem to like to build and draft a team. Not give away picks. And draft a qb whenever a good one comes available. And hope they find one late on the first round or below.
The nfl belief is that if you draft top 3 or 5 you should be drafting a perennial all pro and a hall of famer. Anyone in the first round should be a pro bowler several times in their career and a 10 year starter depending on position. And while it might be a bit of a stretch the thinking is anyone drafted in the first 6 rounds should be a starter.
If you don’t measure up to the above you’re a disappointment. 5th rounders who get cut in year 1-2 are just just like a top 5 pick who is a pedestrian starter or a sub is a bust.
I personally think relative to draft position there are values at qb to be had beyond the top 3-5 guys everyone chases every year. This year it’s maye Daniels Williams and the Michigan kid. McCarthy.
But is it a huge drop off after that to nix? Penix? Personally I like those two better than maye and McCarthy and I’m not sold at all on Daniels. And absolutely not at 2.
But wait. There’s more. What about Michael Pratt or Tulane and Spencer rattler of south car ? Rattler was supposed to go #1 about 3 years ago when he was at ok and the wheels fell off the wagon. Williams replaced him. Riley left. So did rattler. And suddenly he has to go rebuild himself at South Carolina. Not exactly a power. He may be a lot better than his numbers show. Someone morning ago thought he had the measurable to compete for #1
So if you’re looking for a bargain these along with Bo and penis may be your answers. The thing about bargain qbs is that you imo need to be patient enough to go fishing for one every year. Go soend a 2 on a Jalen hurts. Go spend a 6 on a Tom Brady Go spend a 7 on a Brock purdy. Mostly they won’t work out. Sometimes you might get a backup. Qb doesn’t give you value for the position like other rounds. But maybe once every 5 years you get a real keeper. A star. Or a guy who can start and you have a cheap starter. Or trade bait.
I’m thinking Pratt and rattler are those guys this year. And bo and penix are bargains after about the 10-12 spot
6th round starter?
Players drafted in round 4 or 5 have a 75 percent chance of making roster.
Odds drop to 30- 35 percent for rounds 6 and 7. Again not to start , just make the roster, sc
