all the ridiculous hype will simmer down, SC still has MAJOR problems that need to be addressed.
This was never an elite playoff caliber team. Clay helton took years to leave a mess. Going to take a while to fix it.
This year has been a great start for a first year staff. But if SC wants to compete with the big boys on the big stages and actually win 162 has a lot of work to do.
How do you build a team with elite players , have any kind of depth when kids can just up and leave if they don't start? USC poached lots of teams last season. While out poaching ,162 is going to find himself getting poached. That's the biggest challenge.
Looking at the 2023 recruiting class, there doesn't seem to be much emphasis on big linebackers and defensive trench players? Does 162 not see this as a problem? Did he notice last night that USC didn't have anyone that could cover a tight end? Is the portal going to be the answer on D that it was for the O this year? Should be interesting.
oh trojan fans. If you want SC to control it's destiny again, you have to root for ucla to beat oregon next week. Then there might be a rematch of last night's game in the las vegas game. By then maybe the grinch with find someone , maybe a walkon, i have no idea that can cover a tight end. sc
too bad you never coached
or played
football will never be the same without you, Napoleon
San Clemente you must be one happy guy. You care more about being right and by the way you are not right at all, than USC winning. That’s a shame. For you it’s all about ego . What you need is a dose of humility. And USC’s defense with all its deficiencies did what it was supposed to do , cause turnovers and slow down Utah’s offense. They did that. You know it and I know it. And I think even you would acknowledge the hose job .
If oregon loses to ucla and usc beats ucla then 4 teams have 1 loss. Utah and oregon play so that eliminates one.
if oregon wins against Utah they are eliminated since usc beat ucla and they beat oregon. And usc and ucla play again A week later or whatever.
if oregon loses to ucla and to Utah they’re out and usc beat ucla beat Utah beat usc becomes a big mess.
if oregon beats ucla and loses to Utah then I have no freaking idea. I mean. I guess that would be usc Utah and the ucla usc winner tied. If it’s usc then usc loses out to Utah there. If it’s ucla they beat Utah who beat oregon who beat ucla. Another mess of tiebreakers.
Most RPO teams seldom use their TE (Just look at Riley's O), so last night will get ignored as a one off and won't be addressed.
Riley's bigger concerns are his clock management and his ex-QB fault of preferring the passing game over the run game. This is why Kiff and Sark ultimately failed at USC as well and USC has not progressed as much as they think they did taking Riley as their HC. Good as his season has started, Riley really needs to self-scout and address his failures to stick with what is working and managing the clock with his offense better.
Until those things happen (and the various D and special teams issues are addressed), USC will be hard pressed to make a CCG in either the Wac12 or the B1G. You can forget notions of making the playoff, even in an expanded format.
