The observation I wanted make is I think that if Pete Carroll had stayed at USC I don't think Saban would have dominated college football the way he did and won as many national title as he did during his career. Why do I say that, it's because Pete Carroll could recruit. He pretty much owned California, most of the west coast and was very successful recruiting nationally. An example of national recruits include, Fred Davis, Duane Jarriett, Keith Rivers, Mike Williams, LenDale White, Brian Cushing, and I'm sure there were others as well. We can see how successful he was in the NFL as well, winning a super bowl and just coming up short in another one. Would have been interesting to see if Satan's career would have been as successful if Carroll had stayed at USC.
You came out of the gate swinging with a solid post dude. Saban was at the 2005 national championship game watching Pete dismantle Oklahoma and also visited Pete at USC to pick his brain. As time has proven Pete had plenty left in the tank. He was still fully engaged. Post more.
That was the original plan. Pete and co felt
College football could be rolled up. And they could go on a run similar
To what wooden did at ucla. Instead it was Saban that did it
Don't know why everyone is slurping Saban's schlong. If Barry Switzer or PC or Jimmy Johnson just had to win their conference and automatically get to play for a NC, their legacies would be far more shiny than they already are. Saban is the beneficiary of a biased system forced onto the CFB landscape by ESPN. And the NCAA stood by sodomizing themselves, making up evidence to shoot down the one program that posed a threat to their plans. And no, that wasn't Oregon...
I appreciated the likely unintended reference to the Devil at the end of your post....many Auburn fans would likely agree with that sentiment though....lol!
BTW good to have long-time lurkers become new posters here!! Please post more often.
In case you missed it Pete was on a downward spiral when his interest went to coeds and helping the inner city kids while waiting for an NFL job...his edge was lost and his decisoion to rid himself of some of the main members of his staff when they were rolling didn't help either... Pete didn't have the stamina to continue in the college game like Saban....two diffeent cats..Pete was a NFL guy and saban tried it and didn't like it and went back to CFB
