Kind of surprizing. After last season when Penix announced he would return for 2023, Morris disn't waver. He knew he wasn't positioning himself as a professional player and has known he wanted to get into coaching and mentioned there is no better staff to learn from than the ones he is playing for. He knew UW was going after a portal QB as Morris is a 'good' QB and knows the system but doesn't have the verticle game needed for UW's offense. The next in line QB is Austin Mack, who the coaches have given very good reviews on his progress, but he simply is not ready yet (re-classified and should have just finished up his high school Sr season now).
I guess Morris just wants to play his last season ever as a football player. He is still a member of the team and will pratice and be ready to play for the next game (or TWO???).
It will be interesting where he then finds the best opportunuity for him. It will be good for him to experience a different situation.
