On the elusiveness controversy

I think this will clear it all up. Java did say that Williams ”is not elusive.” What he meant was, at the moment he posted the statement, he wasn’t elusive. At that very moment. He wasn‘t making a general statement about his elusiveness. He wasn’t saying that he had never been elusive or would never be elusive. But at the moment he posted it, Williams wasn being elusive. Why not? Who know? Maybe he didn’t feel like being elusive. Maybe he was groggy or something. For some reason, he wasn’t his usual elusive self at that moment. I hope that cleared it up.

wait. Far be it from you. Being a neutral observer. To inject rationale into this You don’t seem to understand. You know how some people like to take a presidential speech and turn it into a meme? Like take a speech where a president says “some in the 30s thought hey the Nazis have it right”. And they narrow it down to the guy saying “the Nazis have it right” omg trump or Obama is a Nazi!!! So Yep. The reason was that he was being tackled 9 times for a 4 yard gain against Stanford and 12 times. Yes 12. For 1 yard against freaking fresno. And he got pooped a few times versus rice too.

when you’re get tackled 21 times for a net gain of 5 yards? Your not hiking many people. When you’re the qb savior? first 2-3 games of year? That’s a bad sign.

he obviously cleaned it up and we saw what we saw later. Ironically the thing i was complaining about. Him not taking off? Was what cost usc the second Utah game in the ccg. So maybe he had reason for his caution. We will never know.

let me expand. You made a judgement call in that moment. You even brought up rushing stats for the first few games. Thats a snapshot.

Over the course of the season he showed you happen to be wrong. Instead of acknowledging you stand corrected, You do this Fonzi thing where you cant admit you were wrong.

See, I thought at the same time he was always elusive even watching his tape from High School. I also thought at that moment that he made poor decisions including not sliding, throwing the ball away , and not going through his progressions. But what do I know?

I guess at that moment he was athletic. But at that very same moment he wasn't even Bryce Young. lmao. Oh I know, Maybe he then (right after fake lake's famous post) suddenly identified as Fran Tankenton? Who am I to judge? People can identify as all kinds of things these days.

that’s what I was saying. The guy gained 18 inches per rush against Stanford. 3 inches per rush against Fresno.

he was sacked 1 time against rice and hit hard. He was sacked 4 times in the second half versus Stanford and 3 times in the first half against Fresno. Thsts 7 times in a very short time.

it was very clear to all of us that he could move. We saw the film from Oklahoma. What confounded me then. And others too. Was why he was taking the hits. And in fact Dick Clemente said the same. And for some reason. though we were saying the same thing. He keyed in on whatever word I used to complain about the fact caleb took 8 sacks in 3 games. 7 in a little over one.

this reminds me of when bill i Tom got a bj in the Oval Office and clearly cheated I’m his wife. Took advantage of an intern and soiled the presidency. same thing here. You’re so focused on the use or meaning of one word that you forgot the whole point. The concern being raised was he was taking hits. He was not taking off. The stats are very very clear about that. Who the hell cares what word was used to describe it.

if he was gaining 80 yards and I said he was doing it by not being elusive then yeah that’s weird. If he was jumping out the world and I said he was not elusive. Also point taken. But there was a problem. Everyone saw it.

there were other Problems too. He wasn’t throwing the ball away. He was running out of bounds. He was keying in on receivers. He was making up his mind on where he was going before he hit the line. But he was still productive. Not great but productive. And at the time many of us Me included wrote that he was immensely talented and this was just the growth pattern of a young player. And we were all curious how soon he’d work these kinks out. He clearly had the tools. No one debated that. I’m not sure how you justify the fact that allegedly I didn’t think that he COULD be elusive while declaring that he was the most athletic qb usc had ever had. Even early on

so anyway we Al wondered at the progression and then wham. We saw it. interestingly I also rmember having a discussion. Not a debate just a spit balling. With skmeone about when college qbs generally “get it”. I think they said starts 11-13 is when you really see the kid become who he will be. And I think Caleb started 6 at ok. so for usc that would be around mid year and we all wondered gosh will this be it?

and like most things it didn’t all happen at once and all the things didn’t happen at once. The game following Fresno? Oregon state. He had attitude and performance issues. So the light didn’t go on then. And he got hit a lot again

after that was Asu. Wsu and Utah. And I think the big osu drive led to a solid Asu game and then wsu and Utah was a good game for him and in it went.

what I find funny and acceptable is when people tel me “this is what you said and this is what you meant”. Ok fine. Ask me to clarify. I did. Multiple times. I get how someone can read it two ways. I was sitting in the stands just shooting ideas out. Dc was wiping his dads @$$ at home watching tv. didk Clemente was yelling at some neighbor and hating minorities somewhere.

what I don’t get is someone repeating. 50. 60. 70 80 100 times what they KNOW I “must” have meant because they snip one word out of a post from 5 months ago. i have no problem saying a guy surprised me or I got that one wrong.
