Maybe! It met USC minimum needs. He was someone with a name and a record of success.
There were better candidates out there. Fickell would have been better. Kelly would have been better. Meyer would have been better and he came available.
You are kidding I hope....I don't beleive any are better candidates for this job ..especiallly Meyer or Kelly...Meyer showed he is not prepared anymore for a rebuild or he wouldn't have been such a jerk especialy the way college football is going...he would blow a gasket....and Kelly hasn't won a big game where anything counted at ND...Fickell had a nice run but against a beatable BAMA got his ass pushed around....and this was his best defense ever....
Well the last hire was a solid F. The only thing more stupid than hiring FAT ASS, was extending his no buy out contract. That move put back the idea of a 'woke hire' back to where that idea belongs. As bad as the VP ( heels up Harris) woke choice? That's up for debate.
The two before were a D( a drunk hiring a drunk), but a decent coach when sober. And another D , darth goatshit was just slimy enough to get SC through the sanctions, and Ihad no idea his father had developed dementia. but once again Kiffin turned out to be another Kendal Roy and self destructed.
So I give this one a B. NO way any football coach that averages giving up 54 points a game in the three biggest games of his life gets an A. Love the hype. Coaching staff is a meh with a couple exceptions. and YES defense might not be as important in today's football, but it can't just be ignored.
Would have gone with Arana. TaterTot Kelly was actually much closer to the gig than most people know. Meyers got exposed as toxic because he was in the NFL, where things can't be hidden. In hindsight, Fickell and Campbell may turn out to have been better choices. Time will tell. Gruden is also a better football coach. And no I don't give a shit about off color jokes. People need to grow the fawk up. sc
@buddyboy lol that was funny buddy. Aranda with a whopping 1 successful season with another coaches recruits. this hire HAD to be right. No more fawking around. A proven winner was the only option. And I like Aranda but Riley is a safer choice. Fickell Has a better track record than Aranda but no comparison to Riley. Meyer wasn’t available but even if he was, he keeps adding suitcases to his luggage. I was ok with Cambell but only an idiot would pick him over Riley.
this hire was not about gambles, Bohn had to get it right. And he did. Enjoy the ride. It’s gonna be fun.
Kliakoff agrees "“I think it was exceptionally well executed by President [Carol] Folt and by Mike Bohn in the way they handled that,” Kliavkoff said. “I personally don’t love the idea of creating a coaching carousel in the middle of the season, but I think we have rules in place today that make that inevitable, right? You have a system where we’ve moved up the early signing period to be before most of the bowl games, so you have this incentive to have a new coach in place before the end of the season. I think about how tragic it would have been if one game went differently and instead of being No. 5 Notre Dame would have been in the CFP and the coach that got them there had already committed to move. That’s not good for the student-athletes. I don’t blame the coach or his agent for doing that; we’ve created a system where schools had to get coaches in sooner. But, given the current system, I think nobody in the country did a better job of running a process that resulted in a great outcome than USC this year.”
