She’s black. She’s female. She ran track. works well with usc seeing people riot and tear down buildings and kill people a couple years ago because. Wokeism and racism and stuff. usc loves to associate with people who aren’t really theirs as long as they have fame or money to lend the university Trade off. I give usc $ or usc can bask in my reflected glory and we both win. Steven Spielberg. Johnny Carson. Neil Armstrong. Allyson Felix.
On the other hand. She actually went to usc and appears to have a degree
which leads one to wonder.
Who attended more/any classes at USC. Allyson Felix or Neil Armstrong? I’m going with Felix
Easy to explain why, in times like these, a guy like Cromwell gets whitewashed. He, like Avery Brundage, was an antisemite and quite open about it. Once the Columbus statues started coming down, Cromwell never had a chance.
A little harder to explain why the replacement should be Felix, since she never competed for SC, by her own choice. But there is an explanation. Obviously, you want someone associated with track and field. Check. Someone with double-oppressed status gets bonus points; I don't think Bob Seagren was ever in the running. Nice if it's someone who appears to have a clean reputation, which Felix seems to have.
The kicker, though, is that SC is in no position to dwell on the fact that Felix never competed as a Trojan, since the school claims credit for all her Olympic medals. Whenever SC talks or writes about its Olympics history (and this has been the operating principle forever), it counts anyone who ever went to SC, whether or not (s)he graduated, and whether the medals were won before, during, or after the athlete's time at SC. Charles Dumas won a gold in the 56 Olympics while in high school, then he enrolled at SC. He's on the list. Janet Evans won golds in 88 and 92 and swam for Stanford in between. After transferring to Texas, she landed at SC. She's on the list. If Rick Neuheisel ever wins an Olympic medal, he'll be on the list, since he went to SC Law School. So if you're going to celebrate Felix as a Trojan Olympian, there's no longer a rationale for saying, "but she never competed as a Trojan."
I dont think it was a "woke" thing. She turned pro in 2003, the same year she enrolled at USC. She became an international track star, winning her first Olympic medal in 2004 in Athens — a silver in the 200-meter dash — as a sophomore. Shortly after earning her bachelor’s degree from the USC Rossier School of Education in 2008, she won her first Olympic gold in Beijing.
I believe I said I had no problem with the field being named for Felix as long as the stadium is named after the benefactor, Kathryn Loker. She is a USC grad and an iconic Olympian . Not sure why anyone would be upset about this.

HELL................NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ducky Drake wasn’t a racist guy. UCLA won’t have to change the name of Drake Stadium.
The old USC track was named after Dean Cromwell. The track stadium is still named after Kathryn Loker,
USC grad and Star Kist tuna heir. I am fine with the field named after Alyson
since she is a USC grad and an iconic Olympian.

Dean Crowell was antisemitic, so there is that
I asked IQ66 this yesterday.
I guess Cromwell said some antisemitic stuff way back whenever and all the jews on the track team got upset.
But on the good news side of things, Alec Baldwin charged with a FELONY. Bet he doesn't get "cancelled". sc
