OT, anyone here have a "Cali-Room" or know about them?

Kidding, kind of. Spent some time in Austin, at a neighborhood out by the Salt Lick, pretty nice, one of those deals where the community has a herd of cattle that they manage and use profits to put in the kitty and keep association dues down and likely a tax break. Had a great pool house/community center for families, which is needed because it was way out there (or at least it was when i was there, which was back when Salt Lick was BYOB) Thought it was nice, was just like central coast but with heat & humidity. People there were kind, always had coolers full of ice in their trucks and liked their Shiner Bock, but they just non-stop talked about Texas.

That the rule, if it floats, flies, or fucks it's usually better to rent.

I am trying to figure out best way to set it up, have a pre-existing patio on a crows nest portion of my backyard, awesome view, just sucks being up there as it is never the right temp, either hot as hell or too cold/afternoon breeze , so looking for one of those aluminum type pergolas or similar where you can open/close the beams on a motor and enclose the space when needed, or open it up. Being where it is at, not looking for a major structure to be built, as i have no way of getting material up there unless it is strapped to the back of a laborer or a donkey. Have a bar with permited power and all that stuff already there, so no permit is needed since i am not attaching to existing house. Just trying to get a little more use out of it without having to swat mosquitos or sweat like a whore in church.

For heating there are some choices. Among them are radiant heat tubes that are electrical mounted in ceilings, radiant heat through under patio tubes like a radiator, gas ceiling mounts, radiant electrical heat like what is often used in bathrooms that comes in sheets, and ceiling fans with heat elements. Ive also seen under bar radiant heat for guests. Bar tops with a linear fireplace are somewhat common now.

Plastic walls that act like curtains are common now. Ceilings of cloth are common too.

Outdoor ceiling fans are really nice for hot weather. There are also very commonly now, out door curtains for closing offf a side for shade from light breezes. Shade cloth for a pergola comes in percentages from 25% to 75% shade (from the nursery industry in custom sizes). Cantina doors can have pull across screens

That is right about what i am thinking, just a really modern, bad ass version of one of those "shelters" you see up in campgrounds in the High Sierras, but with moving parts to open and close, ceileng fans, heaters, shades that automatically draw down, etc. Basically a better built version of this, as the "back" would be a bar and would need ceiling fan support, etc. I want to view side to just have something sheer enough the keep the neighbors from peeking in to see the action on those "perfect sunset evenings".
