Due to a poor officiating performance in the PL match b/n Man United (good guys) and Newcastle (Oregon of the PL), an official was demoted to the Championship level (basically the FCS of the FA). As far as I'm aware, this has never happened before. BTW, his calls consistently went against Man U. Sound familiar?
Now, for the food for thought. During my years in the desert lurking on this board waiting for USC's brain trust (sic) to pull their head out of their collective asses, some posters have broached the topic of relegation in American sports and whether it would be palatable to the fans. Given that currently there has been no serious repercussions to grievous officiating (yes, I'm talking about you P12), I think we now have a possible model to resolve this behavior.
Throwing this out for thoughts. Obviously this is a distant hope that may never come to fruition, but I think this at least resolves the question of whether this would be a good idea or not.
Hopefully none of them apply to the B1G, because they would get hired on the spot. It would make sense from a logistics standpoint, until the B1G saw them action.
For college referees I like the idea of Relegation. You can't have Relegation in North American team sports because all the leagues here have drafts, salary caps and/or revenue sharing. You can't spread the wealth around the league then relegate handcuffed teams, worth billions, now playing in the G League, for example. No TV, no fans, no ticket sales, lower sponsorship $$ etc etc.
Has the P12 ever admitted it was wrong, aside from some weak sauce apologies for the missed calls?
Those cake eaters think they’re a-ok, that the schools/players are the problem.
