“ gut punch “ , good read. Oregon’s small media market is a problem but they have a cash stash drawer, Phil Knight and Nike. $100 mill is rumored to be the entry fee for marginally qualified applicants. SC wrote a strongly worded letter to get ucla’s fee waived.
The cool thing about this is that USC and UCLA just took out Oregon and UW at the knees. They can no longer say "oh come up from LA because your family will come up to see you play and we will be down there once or more a year" Or yeah, short flight back and forth or yes you'll be up here but you'll be on TV all over LA so friends and family will see you.
UO and UW now have a severe recruiting problem and I believe it will be easier for USC to recruit against Michigan and State Penn because those schools have fish to fry near home and pulling kids out of LA will be hard. USC and UCLA just made the LA recruiting market that much harder to penetrate.
Will be fascinating to see where all of this goes for the rest of the 10 pac-12 teams. Oregon included. Change is good. It's what Oregon athletics is built upon.
Excellent article--solid read
Rutgers who joined the Big in 2012 still doesnt get a full share until 2027. UO and UW would gladly accept a half share. $50 mil is still better than the PACs future $25 mil. Plus Phil just gives the AD whatever he needs. Like 1Billion worth over the last 30 years. Plus a Billion to the general fund.
can we go back to the PAC 8?
The B1G needs to be reminded that we ARE the snowstorm. B1G hears the phone ringing. They don’t know yet, the call is coming from INSIDE the house! They gonna get Bohned.
