If the book is smart (and they are) they anticipate this and lower the allowable wager, and raise the odds. Doesn’t mean he couldn’t use some runners to bet on his behalf, then grab some cash. But that’s stupid since the take would be low. Hey sam my buddy where you going? Raiders?. I pop off a couple dimes. I win a small amount. Vegas wasn’t built on winners.
I would think if he placed a bet and no one knew it was him and ratted him out and he lost then nothing.
If he bet at his level of earnings I’d think to do so would be sizable and someone would find out.
Can you imagine if he won? You know that would get out. Once it got out he’d be banned for life for betting on the sport. Contract nullified. And I didn’t realize all the legal stuff Brad wrote about below but makes sense too
Not sure of the nfl but in every baseball locker room there are signs. In every spring training camp lectures. All about not gambling or doing so on baseball. I’m sure the nfl is the same
I’d say approximately 30-35 mil dollars (per year). If the NFL finds out he has anything to do with any wagers on the NFL, he’s F’d.
Long story short, “irregular bets” (unusual amounts on a particular bet) are easily identifiable and can and will be investigated. The betor will be ID’d and interviewed if necessary. According to my friend, they always talk when the FBI gets involved.
Yes, states laws like NRS in Nevada, as well as federal charges. I don’t know the specific sections. The scenario you’re referring to, if I understand it correctly, is flat out cheating. If certain there’s a section which covers cheating in general, as well as more specific sections which clearly outline the elements of various methods to cheat.
If they can trace a bet back to a player, they will go after federally first. NFL gets their pound of flesh last. I’ll bet they can void contracts and obviously suspend indefinitely.
If a casino in Nv for example, determines a large wager is suspicious, they will suspend payment until a full investigation is completed. If the person who placed the bet doesn’t answer questions, they’ll do a full work up on that individual (friends, associates, recent financial transactions, overall financials, phone records, betting history, etc)…. It’s not as difficult as one might think. State can and will work with feds in the interest of the case ($$$$$).
Casinos pay a tremendous amount of taxes. They have friends in high places…. If the bet is placed by a known customer, they could still conduct an investigation or even pay out the individual, then follow the money. All depends on what they have to work with.
