The Committee made it clear that they were never going to let UCLA in. Beat SC and Kal and the Bruins are in vs the Ducks (I don’t give Utah much of a chance).
You don’t have to go back that far. This game had echoes of a reversion back to 2020 or 2019. The secondary got shredded and so many receivers were dropping perfectly placed throws.
The '88 and '98 teams were legitimately good., and the '87 and '97 teams were arguably even better. The 2005 comparison to this '22 team had more to do with smoke and mirrors than a shot at the national title, although the '05 team also had a chance to win the conference.
Yes, the 05 team was full of smoke and mirrors, and it finally got exposed in the desert. They had a chance to win the conference only if they could beat SC, but the game showed beating SC was beyond their ability. If those 05 teams had played 10 times, home and home and at full strength, how many do you think UCLA would have won? I'd put the over/under at 1.
You're probably right, in that the '05 defense wasn't much better than the '22 team. Mora's teams from '12-'14, with Hundley at the helm, were probably better than the '05 team. The '05 team did have Jones-Drew, and Drew Olson was playing over his head, but it was on borrowed time all season.
DTR threw it off his back foot as he stared him down the entire play. He reverted back to his 2nd year. It was fun for awhile. Missing our DC for the third week in a row. I now understand why Pendergast was fired.
As bad as the defense was, it was the offense that lost this one. Really shitass performance.
Giving up 34 to an offense like Arizona's wasn't really unexpected. But an offense like UCLA's only getting 28 against a shitty defense like Arizona's? That's fucked up.
Oh, well. Better to be disappointed now before the next two losses. And at least it'll hasten the departure of Chip sooner rather than later. I just hope the next coach has at least a little bit of time to recruit before the Bruins head to the Big 10.
1988 was a great year
don't try to f*ck it up

Beban needs to give his Heisman to OJ. Where it really belongs.
