Riddle me this SC fans.

Why did the athletic department spend all that money on their new linebacker coach?

Sure it's a great hire. right out of McKiney consulting.

Guy knows what he's doing. He'a a grownup. He worked his way up the ladder for years . Proved himself to be a great defensive coordinator for years and earned his way to head coach where he won multiple championships.

He is , well everything USC's shiny new defensive coordinator isn't. A coach that 10 months ago said he knew nothing about the college game. That the hash marks confused him. That he got a phone call out of the blue when utla offered him the dc job. Wasn't even looking for a new job. Didn't know how practice worked. Didn't know anything about recruiting. Said just 2 months ago that he was still learning how to call plays on defense. Said just recently that he doesn't have a scheme. I didn't make any of this stuff up.

And why would our new linebacker coach take the job? The next step in the career should be a DC at a big program if he wanted that career path.

Who will be running the defense at SC? Not calling the plays. Actually designing and running the defense, practice, depth chart. Any idea who will be the voice in Coach Puppet's headset "advising" him which defensive plays he should call? sc

coach puppet has eight NFL years on his CV including time with the best defense in the NFL

coach champion of the northern tundra has zero

not everyone values two years at North Dakota State over two years with the Ravens

much less two years at Northern Iowa over two years with the Houston Texans

coach champion of the northern tundra thinks a Palos Verdes crash pad might be something special compared to his present situation

not to mention the possibility of coach champion of the northern tundra being front page news with LA Times and ESPN if he changes the culture at SC as expected

You are right. UCLA's defense last year was a sham. It was all Chip Kelly. We know Chip was the defensive mastermind. It just took 5-6 years for him to get it right.

Lynn is radio redux. I'd call him stereo but think I saddled freeman w that already.

But for sure. Lynn after 3 nfl stops just was walking around the ucla campus and sw a help wanted sign. Fortunately in spite of him randomly calling plays off the call sheet. His defense suddenly improved to top 10.

He knew he was a fraud so he doubled his salary and usc. Who has no confidence in him. Hired him at twice his previous salary. Because as we all know. USC to spend money on salaries and regularly wastes it. No one ever ever called them Jew S C.

So once we have the fraud in place what now? Oh yes. Need to go find some adults to do the real work.

Still a little confused how he's fooled everyone. I'm sure his dad being a career nfl coach has had nothing to do with it. His nfl experience and ucla experience last year. No. That's not it.

I stick w my original theory that Lynn learned everything he knew from watching YouTube videos and once usc found out about this they had to cover it up by hiring Mr. bison dude.

At least North Dakota state or whoever they are uses the correct name. Colorado has it all wrong.

So have I got it covered ? Is that the way it happened in the world according to San Clemente?

Coaches. Odom and Roy manning. Both are grinches boys. Lincoln's boys. All were on the ok staff.

Lb play was the weakness of the team this year. Especially with that illiterate. Cobb. Running around.

An offensive and defensive coach. Then we had a coordinator who would handle one level and two other guys. Now they're everywhere

I bet ertz can handle all the lb and if I'm him I say so. I'm like cut em both loose guys. I'm just glad I don't have to talk to alumni or the press anymore Just let me coach lb? Not even deal w offense or coordinate or cal plays? Heck yeah

Look guys, the USC defense will improve next year, and the hire will look legit. The team gave up on Grinch, and to an extent, Coach Lululemons. Just having a cohesive unit that plays hard for the DC will show massive improvement. If you can't beat 'em, hire away their coaches, right?

Please give it a rest. the same old tripe how many times a day? You misconstrue what the guy said and understate his experience in coaching. He called the defense lsat year at UCLA no matter what you suspect and USC getting him gave a blow to UCLA. His defesne improved using the same players that sucked the year before. Why don't you wait until the smoke clears on what the coaching staff is going to look like before you start tearing it down and why the heck have you picked this guy to be the target of your ire? Why not wait and see if things change n practice and in games befoe you start this stuff up?

We are right here, and have told you all the info we have. Guy was good. The DL of UCLA was where all of the success hinged. There was no real "playcalling" by Lynn at least as far as stunts or exotic/well timed blitzing, things like that, but he put the defense in a position to succeed with overall coverage schemes, etc. Basic stuff. He was completely skullfucked by the swinging/crashing gate offense by ASU, and did show some struggles against teams with very balanced offenses. The PAC 12 was really bad this year outside of Washington, Oregon, and, dare I say it, Arizona, so the evidence to sift through is all over the place. UCLA would have likely had the same defensive results if that DC who died would not have gotten sick, they started on the right track last season but once he fell ill it all went to hell. In this Bruin's opinion, Lynn was average to above average, but really rode that DL like a rented mule (as the famed TustinTroy used to always say over on the scout boards). Also, thanks to pussy Michigan, two of the teams were played were from the make-a-wish league or something. You keep asking, we keep telling. I guess you are just one of those men who just keep asking the same question over and over, but rephrase it, hoping to get am answer that you like. You know, like a woman does.

Here's what was being reported months before the season on what Lynn was going to do at UCLA...and I got that he was doing a lot to change but it was subtle...and wasn't as complex as it might eventually be as he was changing the defense...sohere you go:

First off, you took a few of his comments out of context.... Will Lynn be consulting with Entz? I sure hope so. I'm hoping he is going to have in depth discussions with all of his assistants. All good coaches do.

You're making a fairly wild claim here with no facts to back it up. Lynn called the defensive plays for a top 10 defense last season. You're telling me he's going to hand over a major part of his job to his subordinate? Common, after the numbers his D put up last season?!

I estimate Lynn is making AT LEAST twice (most likely 3 times) Entz' salary. Lynn will run the defense.... and yes, I do believe Entz will have a lot of input, but he will not be making the final decisions. Lynn is a former NFL player. Do you think he will allow someone to come in and do his job? Do you believe CLR made Lynn agree to have another coach run the defense when he, Lynn, was hired??? And I seriously doubt CLR had Entz in mind before/during the Lynn hire.

If I'm wrong and Entz ends up calling the d plays during actual games, and is actually the coach who will be running the defense (final decisions on personnel etc), then that will be because Lynn allowed it all. Do I think for one second that will happen. LMFAO,,, NO. Ridiculous

Coach Saban does this stuff all the time. He surrounded his young coordinators with experienced former head coaches. The former coaches were hired as "analysts" or position coaches in order to provide the young coaches with the best resources possible. Did this old heads mentor? I'm sure they did. Do you think Sark and Kiffin did ran the Bama offenses? Called the plays?

On a positive note, we do agree Entz was a solid hire.

What I am alleging is that Entz was brought in because Coach Puppet still has no idea what he is doing. Although he knows more than he did when he knew nothing 10 months ago.

Lynn is the son of a coach. He is NOT a former nfl player. He was on a practice squad in the nfl and a practice squad in Canada.

I think Lynn is still learning how to be a defensive coordinator. Because he said he is still learning how to be a defensive coordinator.

I don't think USC is a place someone should come to learn how to do anything as a coach of the football team.

I think ucla's success on defense had everything to do with their players, coaches, and system in place because COACH PUPPET CHANGED NOTHING. his words.

And I never said Puppet wouldn't be calling the plays at SC . What I posted was that he can't do it on his own, YET. The athletic department is taking his suggestions. Cause they said that too .

Time will tell on all of this. Hope Puppet turns into one of the greatest coaches in the game. sc

You're making general statements here. Yes, no coach can do it on his own. Every single football coach has to rely on their staff for assistance, and on every aspect of the game. If they have a weak staff, they're most likely f'd.

All coaches are still learning,,, every single one of them. Same concept in life.

I get what you're saying. You are mixing in some truths in an attempt to establish fact, or at least your overall theory. I do agree with some of what you're saying. Lynn will lean on Entz and some others within the staff. It's quite common actually. I just think you've made some "allegations" which are far fetched. All good, makes for interesting discussion.

Edit: Yes, you never said Entz would be calling the plays, but the guy "running the defense" will most likely be calling the defensive plays, no?

Yeah, there's truth in that I believe. His standing as an accomplished HC, DC is beyond that of Lynn. His title is LB coach and assistant HC of the defense(or similar). It's right in the title itself.
