OSU D had him figured out BIGTIME.
weve stopped running misdirections type plays. WRers are no longer wide open?? weve stopped running well designed passing RB plays.
DBs sit 10 yards off hit a couple of quick hits to WRers and let them get some
YACs.
also more RBs screens. Such an easy play to keep D on field, honest and chasing us. Mario williams is not impressing me. Lazy rout runner. Small. Not that fast??? Jordan Addison is the truth. Caleb Williams needs to “design” run some. more. Like 5 times a game To balance it out. Caleb Williams needs to see downfield better. CWs evasiveness is why we are 4-0. Without that (slovis or JT) were 2-2 at best. love the improved tackling, blocking, taking care of the ball and the huge drop in PF penalties.
Your second to last comment is absolutely right on the money. CW moves the chains because of that exact point. I’ve said he’s the difference maker. On another note the receivers are good with Addison being the standout but they are not on the same level as Pittman, London and Vaughns IMO. Of course those guys set the bar pretty high.
The offense is predicated on quick decisions. Quick reads. Quick action. It’s why osu shifted on him. To slow that down.
offense Worked perfectly well for Travis sue who averaged 7 yards a carry. How many times did Caen pull the ball out after reading the de crash and take off? None. Thats fear and laziness. He hates contact. Football is a means to an end for Him. His dad loves it more than he does. Caleb is in it for the fame the money and the lifestyle. Probably likes the camaraderie with the guys too. In between painting his nails
this offense is simple. pre snap read. First option second option glance to your flat. Don’t like them? Take off. Caleb goes through his progressions multiple times in the pocket. Thinks he has all day.
the answer is to either take off or move the pocket. But clearly we saw early on that either he does not throw well on the move or he had a really bad night throwing on the move. His mechanics are terrible. When he rolls out of the pocket and creates space. He does not plant the foot and then throw downfield. Even when he has 10 yards of clean space because he rolled the pocket? He flips the ball while running like a third baseman fielding a bunt. And he’s terrible at it. Or was last night.
im guessing that the USC coaches told him to stay in the pocket because of that. Either he was exposed or he was having a bad night. But they need to coach that out of him. He needs to make throws with a solid base because his mechanics are way too lazy on the move. And no I haven’t coached football or quarterbacks. But I probably know more about throwing and throwing mechanics than 99.9% of the people on this earth.
Mario os too emotional and complains a lot Begs for a flag every play. Prima donna
caleb has options every au and missed a wide open addison downfield 3-4 times.
caleb pre snap reads well and then osu would shift and Caleb had no response. I think he makes up his mind and stares down his receivers on every play. Look at the touchdown catch on the winning drive. He is staring at his receiver the entire time. I think the Oregon state coaches just say look back at him you’ll know where he is going.
it’s a really bad habit. They coach you out of it at quarterback camps but under pressure and fatigue I think you go back to bad habits
He also has underneath options and usually a running back in the flat on almost every play but either panicked and did not see them or locked in on one guy and then started scrambling
rileys playbook h jas
worked perfectly well all season and for his career. Kids don’t always follow the plan. And as we know Caleb’s head was all
screwed up from the convo Riley had with him. That didn’t come out of nowhere. For him to talk to him like that at that time meant that mentally he had been pouting and had a crappy attitude for quite a while
If Miller Maas had been more ready he would’ve come in for a series or two
