I’ll be 65 years old in November. With the passing of Vin Scully an important piece of my childhood is over. He was part of the soundtrack of my life. I remember hanging out in our garage as a kid, listening to his voice on a big radio as he was calling games and telling stories. 30 minutes of cleaning out the garage, doing yard work or taking out the trash often took 3 hours as I listened to the greatest broadcaster of my favorite team. Chick Hearn made watch the Lakers, but Vin Scully made me love the Dodgers. This one hurts.

His VOICE! Sandy + Don + Maury + Vin = MAGIC!
Great call, Coach. You painted the picture almost as well as Vinny would have. I've got five years on you, and I don't know how many times I fell asleep on the back patio listening.
I remember many of his calls on the local AM station, most of them on a warm summer night. My favorite of all time is when i heard Vin call out Manny Mota’s late inning base hit to break the all time pinch hit record. Of course the Gibby HR in the WS wasn’t bad either
I was just a little dude , this is one of my earliest sports memories of any kind. The elementary school teacher told the class to watch the Dodger game because history was going to be made. No baseball fans at my house, I watched it alone. Or better said with Vinny and Jerry Dogget.
Vin Scully is as big an icon of baseball as any player that has ever played the game.
Great post. He was a HUGE part of the soundtrack of my childhood too. Transistor radio that wasnt suppose to be on. RIP Vin. Thank you!
